And now: the long awaited contest results 1st Place: Frostynox! I chose this for first place because theres so many creative and skilled facets in the picture. The lighting is impressive, the overall palette looks nice on the eyes. I really love that most everyone incorporated the paintbrush despite it not being in the provided ref, and having it sit up against the wall makes it look really casual and part of the character! Congrats on first place! :D 2nd place: Cccreatureee! Chosen due to inactivity from the original 2nd place, this wouldve won 3rd! It was a super interesting take on the mascot making it into a human, and the design is super recognizable and creative! I esp love the galaxy fur being used on the human skin. Congrats on 2nd place! :D Thank you to everyone for participating! Your works were really cute, I would have everyone win if I didnt have to choose only 2. The 1st and 2nd place winners will be notified that they've won, and they have some time to pick their prize and be online for me to gift it. Dernière modification le 1490229600000 |

Stephspeach a dit : Actually, if there was a 3rd place I would have chosen one of the traditional pieces submitted :o Cccreatureee had a very creative take on the character. Its just that the majority of the works were digital! |

Stephspeach a dit : Don't take the idea that every digital arts are automatically better than regular traditional arts; in the end, it all comes from whether or not you can apply skill, creativity, and artistic talent onto your medium. |

Frostynox a dit : I know! I have DSPD, It means my sleep schedule is flipped from a normal awake at day-sleep at night pattern. I go to sleep around 4-5am and wake up at 2-3 pm, so I really cant be awake at 12pm even if I try. Either we can figure out another time or I can gift you through your account manually, whichever you prefer! :D |

Frostynox a dit : It's been obvious in every art contest I've seen or recognitions of art (like fan art on the homepage) digital art > traditional art. No one actually cares if you apply anything into traditional art because digital is always preferred because of the "flawless" look it has. It's better looking to the eyes. It's fine. |

Stephspeach a dit : Thats really not true, im sorry you feel this way. Traditional art is its own medium just like digital, both mediums can be judged or preferred subjectively. Not all digital art will look "flawless" just like not all traditional art will. Its merely a matter of how well you can show different facets in your medium ie, use of color, anatomy, linework, etc and quite honestly its somewhat insulting implying that digital art takes less effort or looks nicer by default, when digital art has its own setbacks and struggles. Thank you for participating |

Stephspeach a dit : If that's the case I'm going to show you! I'll try to use traditional media next time! >:3 I'm not saying that it's gonna be easy to use traditional media instead of digital; I want to point out that it doesn't matter what medium you use. In fact, I can prove you right now! There's a lot of digital artists that does this short animation competition, but guess who won? The pencil and paper user who didn't even have time to color their animation. Here is another video showing traditional arts can also be as good as digital ones, if not better. The main reason people often prefer digital media is because they're a lot more flexible; they basically can mimic every single traditional media to give a certain effects to your paintings and drawings, without needing to purchase a new item to get a different equipment. But you know what can't be achieved by digital media? Texture. It is basically one of the main prominent features that can only be achieved with traditional media such as paintings. On the other hand, most digital arts are only priced about tenths to hundreds of dollars, meanwhile a simple canvas paintings can be priced millions! And last but not least, no digital art media can replace the nice feel of pencil writing on papers, nor can they replace the brush and paint on canvas. In fact, I have seen few artists who prefers the traditional media because they can't stand the lack of texture given from pen tablets. I still spend 85% of my time drawing with pencils on papers, and I still prefer them over digital drawing. I just can't afford any nice art tools like those Copic Markers, so I use digital media to finalized my artwork, meanwhile every sketches and designs are done on my little sketchbook that I carry everywhere. by the time I'm typing this, I think I have run out of 6 regular writing books (probably more, but I can't remember how many), one A4 sketch book, and halfway through a 2 cm thick a5 sketching book just to draw random sketches and ideas, compared of total 20 artworks (finished and unfinished) I made digitally Dernière modification le 1489884840000 |
