When I first played a game that used avatars I changed it semi-frequently, but I found I often associate an avatar with a person, and the longer someone has one, the more I begin to connect them; so if someone changes there avatar to often it's almost like changing their username to my brain (at least as far as remembering previous posts go). This forum is small enough it's not that big of a issue, but I prefer to let my avatar be consistent so I don't have to worry about it, and can just use the same one everywhere. Plus I like this avatar; it's one of the few I've had that I've never gotten sick of and can use in most situations without worrying of the impression it may give.

I prefer my avatar to be "an icon or figure representing a particular person in computer games, Internet forums, etc."; I don't change every month, so neither should my avatar =p

I'm not saying everyone should do this / I have a problem with others' avatars changing; please don't hate me ;_;
