Doitsudoitsu a dit : It can be perceived as promotion however. Girls see that and they tell boys "oh, you should be like Christian Grey." Bam. And you have tons of mindless people watching it thinking this is what BDSM is when it isn't, and getting the wrong idea about something that is a healthy lifestyle. So it's a disgusting mess all around. Dernière modification le 1424452320000 |

You know what, let's leave this 50 Shades of Grey and BDSM and whatnot chat here. The 50 Shades of Grey thread was locked for a good reason, let's not move what should belong on the locked thread here as a substitute. just to have a change of topic; how's everyone doing? ^^ |

well I'd like to have faith in both adult women and men (as the movie's rated only for mature audiences and not potentially naiive kids) realising both the book and movie are just silly works of fantasy and not blueprints one should use in constructing their actual relationships edit: okay, I didn't mean to start anything, just wanted to get that small point across. I can see why the other sides of the argument hold some weight as well and agree it's overall a bad thing. just not as terribly bad as it could appear to be on the surface. I'm good anyway, thanks for asking. How're you all? Dernière modification le 1424452740000 |

svelnari a dit : The thread was locked because the movie was rated R, and I think as long as I don't touch on aspects of the BDSM lifestyle it should be alright. All I've said is that it is a healthy thing and not something that is shameful. But feel free to report if it's an issue. E - Actually, to settle your concerns, I just contacted a sentinel on Skype to check the conversation. :P Doitsudoitsu a dit : I'd like to as well, truthfully. But adults aren't the problem I see here. Problem is impressionable kids are gonna get their hands on it. I know a lot of fourteen year olds who have read the book just because everyone else has. They're literally selling T-shirts which say "Looking for Mr. Grey" in the juniors section of stores: This is the problem I see. Dernière modification le 1424452920000 |

...now that's just a bloody shame. it's a difficult problem to balance because, on the one hand, there's the issue of freedom of speech and what people should be allowed to make/produce but on the other there's children being put at risk because they're unable to realise fictional relationships like that are harmful in reality |

Mikekungpd a dit : No, that's not the actual problem at all. TW for rape mention: Let's say that a girl has been raped and has escaped an abusive relationship. She's finally getting her life together. She hears about this book and wants to give it a shot because all her friends are talking about it. There's no harm in that. Said girl gets the book, she reads it. Many of the scenes are essentially rape scenes, and she can get triggered. It's certainly not her fault, now is it? Sure, you could pin it on her for picking up the book, but all it was supposed to be was just erotica, and it's just a book (although I really dislike the "it's just a book" argument when considering how many books have changed the world and the thinking of people) to enjoy. I'm dropping it here as I've been advised by a sentinel to try to steer away from this subject, which is fair enough. But hopefully this is some food for thought. If you're curious enough, send me a PM and I'll send you some links and information which features every trigger, rape scene and inaccurate portrayal of BDSM in the book and you can judge for yourself. |
