Alt's are fine but it's up to Joe. Dead has an alt and so does Vda so maybe, yes.

The "2-3 friends" criterion is simply because people who don't already know some of the current tribe members might not be able to adapt to the tribe's environment. A "friend" which stated in OP, can be an acquaintance, it won't matter a lot if you aren't "friend". As long as you meet all the other requirements (which I'm probably sure you do), I'm certain that no one will really mind your lack of "friends" which are members of the tribe.
