I wish he was, but animals do kill for fun to, Namely things like ants and Chimpanzees. But also Lions, in a off relevace since, have been known to kill their own young for a number of reasons.
Aside from that, the act was wrong, Killing for fun is not right. For food is one thing, but for fun is wrong. A little faith in humanity has been lost.

Yes, I certainly agree. Even if they are endangered, and he did kill the lion, why should people get that mad? I understand what the protesters are trying to say, but some are taking it too far.

I heard on an interview from the leader of PETA, they weren't being literal.

Poaching in bowhunting is not news. It's fairly common in Australia due to more popular hunting grounds being on private land or in national parks. To legally hunt it's simply a case of knowing landowners or paying them. The dentist clearly had the money to travel to Africa, so they should have been able to afford access to legal hunting grounds. This being said, it appears that he or at least his 'professional' guides have a disrespect for hunting laws and ethics. If his guides were professional, they would have to be affiliated with an official hunting association to be licensed and hence aware of hunting laws.

Since Cecil was lured off the Park grounds, his guides could have been the ones only knowingly involved in poaching and presented Cecil as a wild lion to Palmer. Although his innocence is questionable due to his previous record of illegal hunting.

My thoughts exactly. Whether innocent or not, a quick spot of the lion with his binoculars before shooting it would have revealed the collar. A hunter should be cautious of both the animal's maturity and its proximity to a national park.
