"If it doesn't find the phone after a few minutes, after a few rings, then typically, it disconnects and that's what's happening," he said.

He was experienced hence why they kept stating of how many hours of blahblah blah

Apparently people have already searched where the supposed debris was seen by the satellite.

That's one of the first two possibilities you think of. Crashing or hijacking.

But yeah it could literally be anywhere now it's been confirmed it's hijacked. Makes the chance of finding it even more slim.
