BTW today I watched pokemon master quest with larvitar in it it was cool and interesting! and larvitar is so cute he looks like samikeichie a character from a game but when I searched up images of larvitar I got really weird and disturbing stuff as one of the results.. eugh.. wats wrong with peeps these days holy heck!

It's a coincidence that you said that, because right now I'm trying to watch through the entire Pokemon series.
Well, at least 3 seasons, anyways....

I already finished the Kanto series, I'm currently on the second disc of the Orange league.
And, I caught something the episode's makers missed!

In the episode Tracey Gets Bugged, in the Orange League, at one point, Misty comments on Tracey's Venonat and Marill saying "At least they aren't bug types," but I suspected that that was incorrect, so I checked Bulbapedia, and I was right! Venonat is a Bug and Poison type combo, unlike Misty said. I feel so proud that I've spotted an error. :D

I couldn't tell you specifically why he doesn't get the pokemon that's stronger than yours. I kind of remember reading somewhere that he shows up late. Though I'm unsure if that has anything to do it it.

However, "Rival" doesn't specifically mean "The person who has the type advantage starter". Gary/Blue/Green's rival was Red, ???/Silver's rival was Ethan/Gold. May/Wally's rival was Brendan.

May was more of the rival than Wally was in their games and she felt more like a friend than Wally was. Hell, Barry and Hugh were also friends. Both Bianca and Cheren were friends and rivals. Same goes for Serena and Shauna. Trevor and Tierno can also be considered rivals, however they don't battle you often enough and the pokedex competition isn't explored very well.

Rival would be the person who's mainly pushing you forward, it can't be multiple people

There's always the rival, someone who like I said pushes you forward

Then when multiple people come into play there's just the player who's just there for the side story, a great example of this is bianca because she doesn't really battle you and when she does it isn't a challenge.

Normally what defines a rival is that they battle you at significant points in time for the story. So of course the obvious Blue and Silver, then in gen 3 it's kinda complicated because well that's kinda an exception because until ORAS it was a clear May, until in ORAS they gave Wally a bigger role. But for simplicity sake you can still say May.
4th Gen, Barry, and again he like the other chooses the advantage starter.
5th Gen was already discussed, Bianca is just clearly there to the side, and Cheren is always there at points in time where it actually feels like a challenge. Such as leading up to the elite 4 on victory road.
and in gen 6, uhggggg so many rivals. But the main one is clearly Serena or the male guy, whatever his name is.Since you have to beat him/her at significant times in the story. And all these people share the same thing, they all have the advantage starter.

(note black and white 2 with Hugh was your rival, black and white 2 broke a lot of patterns so really it shouldn't be counted as black and white 2 is normally never counted for it breaking too many patterns.)

Because of all this, it's easy to assume lil Hau over there is the side character for the story

Which means someone has yet to be revealed, which is just what Pokemon would do, they don't want to just instantly unveil all the characters, especially one that would be extremely significant to the story.

For those that push others forward, are you just talking about through challenge? Because you can push people forward through support.

u p much called all those guys rivals!! Bianca/Shauna&friends are not really the "main" rivals though, right.

With it only being known that Hau has the weaker starter, we'll have to indeed wait until more info comes to see if anyone else pops up.

Like maybe Lillie has the stronger starter in her bag, though maybe she doesn't battle the player character often, maybe like once or twice. It is said she's holding a secret that would involve the story of the game, so she wouldn't be what you called a "side" rival either. I'm not sure I'll call Hau a side rival though.

Back to Hau, he did have a Pichu that almost wrecked the demo guy's team. If only it didn't use those two support moves at the end... I'm wondering if this Pichu was just because GF likes the Pikachu line, or if it was to balance out against Popplio. Making it so that if you chose a different starter, Pichu wouldn't be there. I assume Pichu will be there no matter the starter though. I wouldn't be surprised if no one picked the stronger starter either, with GF trying to be different.

Speaking of rivals. I've always considered N a rival, despite being an "evil team leader".

N of course wouldn't be a rival, he'd just be the main antagonist, though that's not to say he's a bad guy, I've always seen N as a good guy on the bad team.

And by rival, I'm speaking of the main rival, of course.

Also speaking of Lillie, there's some speculation that the secret she's holding is actually Zygarde core in her bag, similar to how Bonnie has Zygarde core, but of course that's too early to say anything and is just mere speculation.

I think the main rival just simply put, hasn't been revealed yet. And it's likely the other character, though it could also be someone else as seen with Barry, Cheren, Silver and Blue, but I just think it'll be the other character. Though I'd prefer it to be someone else. It'd be interesting.

And yeah with only knowing Hau has the weaker starter, sorry but I do think that's enough evidence to say not only is there bound to be more to come, but it's likely he's literally just going to be a side friend like literally all the other games. These patterns are there for a reason you know, Pokemon follows a strict story line.

calling N your rival just wouldn't be right, he doesn't even have any of the same interest as you, he wants to stop pokemon battles, not "become the best trainer"

You have to realize by definition, a rival cannot be N, because N doesn't have the same objective as you, nor is he even your friend, he's your enemy, which shouldn't be confused with a rival.

Again, that's not to say he's an enemy enemy, just the antagonist.
