Fatgoose: In response to your only on topic comment, lions are not endangered. They are perfectly legal to hunt with proper licenses. The reason this was illegal was because the lion was protected and on a national park, so "hunting" him was actually poaching, which is very much illegal. They're not trying to punish him for killing a lion, they're trying to punish him for killing a lion that was under government care. It's like if you went into a zoo and killed a lion there.

I'm locking this to prevent this from escalating from a place to mourn the loss of a lion to a place to fight.

Poor, poor cecil.. Hunters are cruel, even more cruel when they do it for FUN or for a TROPHY. It makes it even more sad that all those poor cubs will die too. Would totally get that plushie if it would be in one of the stores close to where I live.

I know I'm like late, but whatever.

Is it honestly so hard for that dentist to feel special and brave without having to kill an innocent animal that hasn't done anything wrong?

I don't care if that lion was famous or whatever. You simply shouldn't do an act like that. No one wants to be shot with an arrow, tracked for 24 hours, and then shot with a gun.

Now, I'm not 100% against hunting. I know that there are people out there who have to hunt in order for them to survive. But hunting for fun? Just no.

I was at my grandma's house and she was watching the news with me when Cecil the lion came on.
My grandma said:
The guy who killed Cecil was paid alot of money so he can kill Cecil from a few guys out of the country. And
they said it was safe to kill Cecil.( My grandma trusts this )

It's not illegal to hunt lions. It was illegal to kill Cecil because he was considered government property coming from a national park. It's questionable if he knew Cecil was from a national park or not. His guides lured Cecil off the property, so they could be the only ones at fault and not him.
