I suppose I'd at first merely look into just rationing it over the course of my life, so that I'd never have to work. Assuming I were to live for another 70 years, I'd spend no more than about £10-14k a year. I don't know if that'd cover the cost of living (a very cheap living). I suppose I could supplement it by claiming out-of-work benefits, but that wouldn't be ethical.
I don't think that's a good plan, it's not sustainable. For starters, inflation means a million pounds wouldn't even be worth as much by the end of my lifetime. Besides that, it'd be a rather un-meaningful life.

I think what I'd do is invest a very large portion of it on top-quality private tuition so that I can get loads of great qualifications. Then I'd put some of it into getting quality therapy to fix defects in my personality and thought processes. I'm sure I'd give some of it to charity as well.

And then there's a worry I'd just waste it all on holidays.
