Paroles De Dev: 8th Birthday Discussion Thread. |
29 | ||
These opinions were expressed by Timolive. I just helped him out by making this thread. If you want to discuss directly with the creator, speak with them. This is a discussion topic we decided to make related to the Paroles De Dev's thread to suggest features that would eventually need to get removed and talk about our opinions. Everyone who joined the game joined because of the simplicity on first sight as a time waster game, but l think most stayed because they discovered the great community of people and all the random things going on and changing all the time, even if the events are recycled they add variety to normal gameplay which breaks up the ''boredom'' and adds a discussion topic to the rooms and to the forums. One thing that I think should be improved, is the Tutorial, as it only shows how to get the cheese and bring it to the hole. A tutorial that should be added would be related to explaining how to be a shaman and how the system on how to get to become shaman works (16 points 1st mouse, 14 2nd, 12 3rd, 10 others and how those add up on the list). Since most of the community plays in vanilla and normal rooms, that should remain the main focus and so avoid anything that would change the whole point of playing (cheese>hole). Regarding the Tutorial Tips: For the systems and the lack of players Atelier801 should mainly consider deleting accounts that haven't been active for a very long time, so that would solve the issue of needing a lot of storage servers and the need for workforce to operate them (we're aware that there are players that come back after lots of years). Another helpful thing would be deleting or moving Defilante and Music to Modules. You can delete the Elections as it's pretty much an obsolete feature of the game. As a bigger change to save space and workforce duties I suggest deleting Nekodancer, Fortoresse and Bouboum. I know people still play those games (but not that many compared to TFM and DM), so eventually removing at least their forums would be a great idea since anyone hardly uses them. (all the threads have a day's difference or more on their posts). As for profit I would consider looking into the mobile app market, as it would bring new players from there. Also a lot of current players use Puffin which uses proxy and causes trouble with banned ip's, so I'm pretty sure that a lot would rather download an optimized app that would run the game without issues and the fear of being banned. Personally I would even pay a few € for it, but I think you would gain more profit by running a few advertisements before the game starts up when you open it. To address some of the complaints I've seen people have (as in what I think the reasons are, correct/add onto them admins):

Already said this in the announcements thread, will say it here too. Dea_bu a dit : Despite what I said previously of being a loyal member of Transformice, there are some things that are bugging me. What I'd like to see removed: - Cafe, self-explanatory - self-publicity, trolling, frequent drama amongst users etc. - if not removing it, then move it somewhere else - Election, it's basically self-publicity, a useless feature and the polls are a bit spammy.. - Defilante and music room modes - could be removed since there's not a lot of activity in these game modes, or at least make them as #modules. These take some good space in the Transformice interface. What I'd like to see improved: - Map Editor, plenty of talks about improving this in-game feature. There's now an increasing chance that your map is very similar to someone else's. - Tribes, there should be an improvement to tribes, otherwise it seems like a tad bit useless, add challenges that the tribe needs to work towards together in order to earn rewards such as extra XP, consumables, cheese or fraises. - New shaman mode(s), Zou made a thread a couple of years back to ''Dream a new shaman mode'', and there were plenty of suggestions regarding that. You apparently made a choice and I've been very curious w/o getting any answers on when that'll be added. - Shop, while it may seem like a very good design, I still think it's a bit too crowded. Use Fewfre's dressroom as an example, you can zoom in and zoom out to see how your mouse looks like - add poses etc. - User's Profile, I made a suggestion regarding this. I'd like it to be more visually appealing. Some minor additions wouldn't hurt if the useless features listed at the beginning of the post were removed. |

I will probably make a larger post in a little while but I wanted to say that the map editor is one of the most important underrated features of Transformice because without it, we wouldn't have all of the maps that we do have currently in rotation. Implementing new features will not only benefit map makers but also the players by introducing new concepts and mechanism that will help further the enjoyment of playing on player-created maps. |

Well done, nice thread. As a survivor/bootcamp player there is not much i would like to see improved but yeah, i totally understand if you would like some more explanations for the new comers :D |

I agree with all the points above. I would also like to bring forth the idea of getting more diverse members of staff for moderator and sentinel places. For instance, we have a lack of LGBT+ mods and sents (I only actually know 3 which are LGBT, with one of them being trans). 'Lotta people making homophobic and transphobic jokes, and no one else really knows how to handle them because they don't experience what a lot of LGBT players go through (need I remind you about my forum sanctions over That One User). With the implementation of a more diverse range of staff members, I think tackling this issue could really help out some of the players who are part of a minority. |
6 | ||
Gnar a dit : I highly agree on this! I've seen many mods closing an eye on homophobic insults saying to just 'ignore' that. |

Ares a dit : Exactly. You can ignore a player all you like, but that will not stop them from hurting others unless action is taken. |

Swarmkat a dit : this. i feel unmotivated to gain these points and participate in events due to the fact they don't actually do anything. i understand they don't currently have the resources to make new events but at least give some sort of reward for the points that sit on our profile. titles would be nice |

I wanted to share a few suggestions that I have about the recent trouble coming into light in the recent Paroles de Dev. There are a few things that I think would benefit from gaining a higher priority status in recent updates and then there are some things that I believe are no longer necessary for Transformice to host as I will share below. What should be fixed/ revamped? Make the cafe more relevant. I believe that the administrators had a good idea behind the cafe however they just didn't executed it correctly. Players currently have a hard time keeping up with recent changes such as Transformice's birthday and 2x cheese and XP for the week -- they should turn the cafe into a place where staff and the admins can announce important changes, update changelogs and even local announcements such as scheduled funcorp rooms, parties and more. Not only will this keep players updated but it will also increase the amount of community-staff relations and communication between the two. I wouldn't mind allowing people to be able to comment under each update to increase awareness and discussion. I made a suggestion about this a long time ago and it can be found here. Approve more player-made events. A good compromise between spending time and resources in creating new events would be to approve more events made by the player-base. We have had a few LUA events over the years that rewards a title however I hardly see them anymore -- why not take advantage of players giving you free content by suggesting changes and working with said creator to achieve a better event as a whole? Allow them to implement their own badges or even shop items if they are approved by administration, why are you guys ignoring a player-base that is there offering you guys a temporary solution to an already conflicted situation? Giving attention to half-baked gamemodes. I am talking about Defilante and the Vampire rounds for the most part. The problem with defilante is that there is no appeal to play the gamemode since racing is pretty similar in terms of fast gameplay and you also get more consistent cheese there, either give more love to defilante and update it or just delete it all together. The vampire mode also has very little appeal for most survivor players and in reality, the vampire round proves to be more of a "break round" than something to be competitive about. A good way to increase more traffic into these two gamemodes would be to introduce some badges and challenges for them, similar to how survivor and racing are currently set up. Advertisement. Simple thing to do is run more ads through your heavily trafficked areas such as Transformice, DeadMaze and Forum. Work with a different advertisement company to allow you to share ads through your game on a more global and international scale because it will definitely help -- make watching ads more appealing by offering one time streak rewards for the amount of times you have watched ads on a daily basis i.e watching a couple of ads every day will give you 5 fraises instead of the normal 1 after a certain amount of days -- let's say 10 for an example however you will only get 5 fraises for one day rather than getting 5 every day after. Make the forum more mainstream. The forum is a good place to relay information to the rest of the community however in my experience as almost a forum regular for the last few years, I noticed that the forum is often ignored by most of the community because there is no reason to be on here other than to mess with your account settings. I think it is important to bring players here more often because then you can place more advertisement onto the site and have more site traffic as a whole. More people coming through this forum along with advertisement = more revenue. General Forum improvements. I think as of now, the titles on this forum are completely useless and they are only achieved through easily abused prestige points. Since it is allowed to farm likes in the Leisure Lounge now, titles are no longer thought as objective but seen as a complete waste of time to do. I want the administrators to improve upon that and give the title system more use and more functionality rather than being there to display prestige points -- titles can be earned through various challenges or goals similar to how it is in-game. I made a thread on this and it can be found here. I also wanted to touch on the topic of introducing more traffic onto the forum for more ad revenue potential and I think a good way to do that is to just introduce things you would normally find on a third-party site such as a leaderboard, individual player statistic and even a map platform (I made a thread about that here!). All of these things will bring more people to the forum website and again, with more traffic incoming then you have more potential to benefit off of possible advertisements placed on the site. I admit that I don't really know too much in the science of website making but provided with your API, I don't see why this can't be a problem given that you have the available space if you were to make this API information easily accessible located up by the search button. Improving the tutorial is a must. A good functional and informative tutorial is a great way to introduce new players into the game. The current tutorial is very vague about what you are supposed to do and I think it contributes to the loss of new players because nobody really understands what you're supposed to do. It can take up to 60 levels until some shamans are consistent enough with their ability to shaman and I think the learning curve for it is too confusing without proper access to a decent tutorial. It also doesn't help when your community is punishing new shamans for not understanding what they are supposed to do and it is understandable, most have to figure it out on their own with very little help offered and go through the name-calling until they finally learn what to do. This tutorial needs to include the basic foundations of building such as Red-Yellow-Blue nails and what are the differences along with GIFS, how to spawn items with an included GIF, How to keep your builds stable (with anvils and support) along with a GIF and lastly, I think a tutorial before every shaman mode is needed because nowadays, I see divine shamans who has never actually learned how to shaman because they relied too much on tape and large planks and without them, they're terrible. Make this tutorial very accessible as well please. Update the map-editor already!!! This is by far my most important suggestion because a lot of people neglect this hidden gem or do not really know how important it is. The map-editor is a platform that allows players to create maps and give free content to Atelier801, every map permed, validated or even made in general are owned by Atelier801 and they reserve all rights to them. This allows them to have thousands upon thousands of free maps added into rotation and they do not have to do anything about it. It is a perfect system for adding consistent content to your game without having to intervene much. The map-editor is one if not the most important foundation of Transformice because without it, you would only be able to play on the admin-made maps of vanilla -- that means no modules, bootcamp, survivor, normal, racing and music rooms because maps rotated through there are all player-made through the map-editor and discussed and permed by the Mapcrew. I really do not understand how the admins have been able to neglect this for so long but I think it needs to be made priority and given a huge revamp because the UI is very 2012 and there hasn't been any major updates since the introduction of joints -- update the UI because it doesn't even have the wood background yet and it's ridiculous. Improve the settings and include a way to be able to see JD joints rather than having to use a third-party site that most people don't even know exists -- there could be a general joint overlay that can be toggled to allow people to see joints physically and more naturally than debug however I do not know if it is possible behind the scenes. Give more control to map-makers by allowing them to control the amount of time in a map-editor validation round, give the option to toggle between shaman and normal mouse, more commands, allow them to edit XML more easily without a third-party site, better hotkey settings and an improved remapping of the keyboard in relation to the map-editor, allow people to place two shamans without having to dig into the XML and last but not least, make the map-editor more obvious that it exists rather than having it hidden away -- I would like to see the map-editor added onto the room menu along side the other gamemodes. A good third point that I want to make is that the map-editor is a very important addition to Transformice so make it more appealing and important to people! Give the map-editor more hype, encourage more users to make maps, make the map-editor more friendly without having to go through the steep learning curve, make it more obvious that it exists, making the map-editor as a whole more player-friendly. I know that the admins probably don't have too much time but I suggest going through the suggestions-subforum and look for map-editor suggestions because there are a ton of them. Contact the Mapcrew and have them set up communication with local map-makers about possible suggestions and improvements. What should be removed? The election is entirely useless. I don't really know what was the point behind the election but as of now, it is a rigged pissing contest and the same people win over and over again to make useless polls. I suggest removing this feature entirely unless you guys have a way to make it more relevant since it is not mandatory or does not prove to be of any obvious use to the game. I think releasing this was a waste of time and I don't really see what the point of it was in the first place. Delete inactive accounts. I don't really know what goes on behind the scenes in terms of coding and server build-up however I think a good way to clear space is to remove the thousands if not millions of accounts that have been made without any real statistics. There are tons of people who have made a ton of alternative accounts in the past and even though the systems in place currently put a good stop to that, you guys still have all of those empty accounts rotting away at your server space. The one benefit of having a tag system is being able to remove all of those accounts without people being able to whine about account names so use this to your advantage and finally take the leap to wipe the slate clean. I think the requirements should be accounts under level 10 with under 100 cheese gathered. Remove dead modules/ minigames. I think there are a couple of minigames that are no longer played or updated anymore and should be considered for removal. Make it a requirement for a module to have active involvement otherwise it will no longer get an official position and maybe this will help with space as well in terms of hosting? New suggestions and possible improvements to be considered. Implementing daily rewards. There have been a few suggestions over the years that have been universally liked by most players about possibly implementing a daily rewards system whether it be a wheel spin by chance or a guaranteed prize for logging in everyday leading up to a grand prize. The goal right now is to get some people who no longer plays to consider logging on for daily prizes at the least and I think this is a good system to add to the game. Even though this is a simple flash game, you cannot deny that your game has a very large playerbase with expectations and most games nowadays of the MMO genre usually include daily rewards of some sort. Improve admin-player communication. The admins almost never comment on ongoing discussions and very rarely will they comment in suggestions. What you need to do to bond with the playerbase and make them invest in the game personally is to appear more often, comment on more threads and suggestion threads, give more feedback, give more update posts like the Paroles de Devs -- show the playerbase that the administrators care about their community and your community will back you up. The current Paroles de Dev update is a very great start. Another good thing to bring up since it is related to the communication between admins and players is to create more contests. There have been a few contests over the years and I think the admins should really start looking out and exploring more local options and even just contributing to help judge or joining a staff team's livestream is a great way to create hype. Start advertising these contests on social media and help bring in more players from all over. Implement new things to purchase. I made a suggestion a long time ago about the possibility of buying new animations to add to your animation bar such as a few new dance animations that you're able to purchase and even more. I think the admins can find a decent market in this as long as they're appealing for players to buy. My suggestion thread can be found here. Another good suggestion that I made in the past is the ability to purchase new emoticons however in order to add this, the admins would have to update the UI to include an emoticon popup so that mice are able to select everything. I think this would be a really cool feature because selling emoticons can be a really great way to differentiating yourself from other players. I think they should include some of the other game's emoticons too to add diversity and perhaps some other unique ones. My thread for it can be found here. New emoticons and even animations can be either sold separately or even bundled together with Fashion Squad outfits or collector items. |

Grimmaro a dit : I couldn't agree with you more. Only thing that feels missing for me in the bunch still is the lack of communication that they do in A801 forums, since a good part of the players don't even check forums at all. They should consider making some sort of a news blog in-game about somewhat important news (starting from serious changes and what has been added in X update, even ending up to as far to their monthly art showcase) TFM related.
