COVID-19 Virus Discussion What is COVID-19 and where did it come from? COVID-19, or its more familiar name, Coronavirus, is a virus spread through close contact with individuals. It first was found in Wuhan, China and many believe that it was found in a "wet market" which sold dead and living animals such as birds and fish. While the source hasn't been identified, many believe it has come from bats. Even though bats weren't sold in the market, it is possible they infected chickens or other animals. [outdated information as of 6/17/2021] How deadly is COVID-19? Should I worry about it? COVID-19 was classified as a national crisis in the United States around 2020, since then 177 million people have had the disease worldwide. The disease is also highly contagious. However, with the introduction of vaccines, the lockdown put in place in the United States has been lifted and businesses have begun to open again. With the spread of new variants, it is unclear whether this will last forever, although the future is bright! People who are vaccinated are fairly safe and, as long as you wear your mask, the likelihood of being infected is lower. The likelihood of dying from the disease is MUCH lower if you are vaccinated, so if those resources are available to you, please book your appointment now! What should I do to keep safe? While it depends on the region you are in, continuing to wear a mask will help you stay healthy. Getting vaccinated also will keep you and your family safe, as the vaccine will expose you to a weaker form of COVID-19 so that if you are ever infected, you won't experience the same deadly symptoms. I recommend looking up your area's infection rate and guidelines from health professionals if you are unsure! What are the symptoms of COVID-19? What can I do if I have these symptoms? COVID-19 has symptoms similar to the common cold: dry cough, shortness of breath, sore throat, and tiredness. If you have these symptoms, there's a chance you have COVID-19. It is recommended you stay at home and separate yourself from other people while infected. Stay in contact with a doctor while infected and isolating and keep your space clean. As of 2021, I have been using the CDC's articles on COVID-19 as a source. I highly recommend their articles and information, as it is high authority and incredibly informative. Their information is also easily understandable for the average person. I will add more sources in the future if people are interested-- for now, I recommend looking for articles that feature ".gov" at the end. These sources usually are from the government and are more reliable. ------- Dernière modification le 1623953100000 |

Belgium here, appearantly our french neighbours have gone in a near full lockdown meaning people are only allowed for high-priority purposes such as going to work or buying food. People caught outside with no good reason are fined a hefty fee. EDIT: Same laws are being applied here in Belgium. All citizens are to remain indoors and avoid close contact when leaving. Citizens are only allowed to leave for primary purposes such as food and work. Citizens who leave their homes for other reasons will be fined heavily. Dernière modification le 1584476520000 |

Ah, yes. A thread of Coronavirus. In Hungary we don't go to school but we still need to learn with digital education. And I think it isn't bad at all, because we don't need to go school further than normal. We can't go back for an indefinite period, we don't allowed to go into cinemas, nightclubs and theaters, the cafés, restaurants and shops (except for groceries and pharmacies) close at 3 pm. Edit: 103 cases. Dernière modification le 1585253760000 |

Little update for Indiana (American state); - 366 cases - 12 deaths - Unknown amount of recoveries-- I can't find anything. - All schools, restaurants, most jobs, etc are closed. Schools have moved to e-learning, restaurants are now take-home or do delivery only, most jobs let people go or have moved to online. - No one is allowed out of their homes unless it's for work or groceries. - My school (and many others) are closed until May 1st due to orders from the local health department, perhaps even longer than that. There's a good chance I'll have to start college online, too, if this goes on for any longer. |

death count in the bay area (where i live) due to covid-19 is 26, however, we have some of the most cases in the country (sadly) with over 700 people confirmed. i believe all schools in california are closed and we are only allowed outside our houses to exercise, work, and get essential goods. real quick, a thank you to our governor gavin newsom who is really doing his best to contain this virus in these times. he always looks really tired when on tv!! he and the governor of new york are doing a good job (although when this scare is over, can you guys clean the new york subways more often??) and i wanna give a thank you to all the people doing their part, staying inside!! stay safe :)) edit// our school has now been pushed to online until may 4th Dernière modification le 1585162500000 |
