Just because it's taboo to talk about something doesn't mean it isn't ok. There is no discussion not worth discussing, if we can discuss telletubies we can also discuss rape. So it doesn't matter, if someone is triggered by a taboo topic, well oh fucking well, it changes nothing, as said before, nothing is sacred, nothing can be protected from public discussion and critisism. Milkandsurreal a dit : then don't partake in the discussion, or create a new discussion like me and ddapple did Dernière modification le 1472282820000

agreeing with bagel 100%. Mousechris a dit : and just because you, 1 out of the entirety of the public, wants to talk about something very disturbing to practically the entire world (gore, rape, suicide, etc), doesnt mean its okay. there's a time and a place for discussing those things, and that place is one not in the midst of a couple of 3rd graders or, very similarly, on a public mouse forum thread where the general audience is at an age where they dont want to talk about or will be disturbed by those things. i will not dox you for partaking in such a conversation with two or six or how many other people that are prepared and want to talk about that topic with you collectively in a private group, but when you are posting it publicly where anyone of any age can see it, there's a problem. i hope you can see that.

i actually understand some people get triggered by shit but just gently tell them "hey, i feel uncomfortable watching ____, can you do this another time" instead of flipping out and screaming ab how triggered you are

anubislk a dit : yeah i hope no one thinks im defending people like that lol, throwing a tantrum about it will not help your situation at all and politely telling them that you feel uncomfortable with something is the safest way to do it. |

It's a sudden jump-in but I also kind of just want to point out that not only can it make someone feel pretty uncomfortable or they may be too young to hear about it, but it can also can: Dernière modification le 1472306160000

Again, the best way to recover from all that is from safe and normal exposer, trigger warnings don't do that and have the oppisite effect, creating a shell where once the topic does come up (and it will get over it thats life) they could have worse problems. Regardeless of how "gross" you think a topic is, it's going to get talked about sometime in your life, and if you're not ready for it and literally are "triggered" by it, you're going to get fucked over. People talk about rape, it's how people find out if a rape case was real, they discuss what they know, or they gossip about it too. Either way the subject comes up and just because you think it's "gross" or get "triggered" by it, doesn't mean the whole world will shut up.

as a person who was very affected by gore before, and who had to go through repeated thoughts about it as well, i began exposing myself more and more each time to certain images so i could get used to it and overcome the "trigger" i had. because of me doing this to myself, i'm not as affected as i was by it in the past. i'll keep doing so, too. i was even affected by thoughts of murder, or anything like that, but then i started watching homicide documentaries or anything similar to it. though, i could understand if it was someone going through WORSE problems than i had to go through. for example, someone who had to go through extreme trauma. which is pretty bad and unfortunate. but not all of us went through extreme trauma for these "triggers". some of us dont even have that big of a trigger, some of us just overreact just to have another person comfort them. some people aren't even willing to try and overcome that trigger they have because they don't want to. and i'm talking about people who did not go through bad trauma, just people who are extremely "terrified" of that one thing that they can try getting rid of slowly. of course, i'm not saying you're going to immediately get rid of it, i'm not saying that it's not hard to do. but it's still possible. also, like i've said earlier, i've seen people overreact and "scream" at people for mentioning something "bad" and half of those times were on these forums. it's like with the misgendering thing. if someone accidentally misgenders someone, another person has to act unnecessarily rude to them when they could just respectfully tell the person their preferred pronouns. and yes, people CAN check the person's profile, but that thought doesn't exactly come to mind all the time. in fact, some don't even put their gender on their profile, but if they do, it's just written down in the tabs they have instead of actually using the gender option thats available. mousechris does make a good point, too. you can't expect not to see that one thing you are affected by when it's literally almost everywhere now. (sorry if i repeated certain words im spacing out a lot right now so i can't focus) Dernière modification le 1472315940000
