The community in this game isn't welcoming at all. I was a bit worried new players from steam might get discouraged from joining the game because of the community

so, if this was intended as a "mature" (ish) game, why then try and change it to a kid friendly one? There will already be established acceptable behaviours, and they will be very very very hard to change. See every ban appeal thread where people are all "but other people do it and they dont get banned!" as their justification for whatever they did. Changing a target audience is a stupidly hard thing to do, and usually requires a complete rebranding. Or the whole previous playerbase being destroyed and a new one built up.

i think this, the fact that it was once fine to do certain things but now they're trying to be kid friendly it's not so much accepted, is the main reason this community is toxic. It's not bad modding, it's lack of continuity.
