Haruhitastic a dit :
Mods process mod apps through the same channels.

It isn't *exactly* the same thing, the only difference here is that the developers would have to implement a feature for us to manage these white lists, which would be linked to the game server in order to be effective.
Staff apps on the other hand are processed externally and have nothing to do with the coding of the game/forum.

However, implementing a such thing is not impossible so we shouldn't be pessimistic straight away. I really support the idea, I don't think there's any better solution.

Ah, my bad, I was left with the impression they were automatically posted. It shouldn't be too hard to do though, just a bot or something.

The implementation of managing it shouldn't be too hard either. Make two commands (add and remove) and a GUI for a list that people can access easier.

If this were to be implemented, I'd also like it to be easy for users to understand. For example when they log onto a server they can't speak on because of their IP, they get a popup message when they try to chat saying something like "You cannot talk on this server as you're not playing from an English speaking country. If you'd like to appeal to this and be allowed to chat on the server, please type a paragraph in the text box below proving that you can speak English."

Haruhitastic a dit :
Are you trying to imply mods aren't smart enough to spot that? :p

well, no, but if different moderators moderate different forms and there's a form that got copied, there's no telling the form was copied if the original form went to moderator1 and the copied form went to moderator2.

It'd be in a forum all can access, it wouldn't be one single mod modding one. Sorry if my description wasn't clear.

When I get the time, I'll create a mock UI for this.

I think this is a good idea in theory however in practice it will be a problem. I'm sure the admins are going to get hundreds of these applications a week and someone is going to have to read through them all. The admins aren't known for their fast response time with other communications and I think it will take extremely long to get "whitelisted". It's going to be a lot of work for whomever has to do this and I am sure they are going to get tons of spam. Most applications will likely go by unnoticed like most reports in game. I also think it will be very easy for a player to get through this verification. They can basically copy and paste the same thing someone else did or they could ask a native english speaker to write it for them. I do not think it's fair that english speakers from other countries are blocked however the community filter does more good than harm in my opinion.

I've addressed all of your points previously, but allow me to tl;dr them:

  • Mods and arbs would handle this. Not admins.
  • It will be posted in a private forum, it will not be an in game thing like reports. Forums are usually accessed by staff for personal reasons anyway.
  • A user copying and pasting would be caught because of past apps shared, or if they speak another language on the server their access will be revoked anyway.

Support the idea.

I'm lucky that the country I moved to isn't blocked from speaking on E2. I speak only english but live in a country which has it's own community and a different language, I know how I'd feel if I couldn't speak on E2.

I don't think all the effort that is required to implement something like this is worth it. There are so many different rooms and different ways of communication inside the game that this suggestion is really far-fetched. What's wrong with communicating in whispers, /chats or tribechats? Or playing in private rooms or simply on the EN server?

A white list just for the E2 community would also not be sufficiënt, because the same reasoning applies to all people that speak any other language than English but live in Brazil (for example), and therefore are not able to speak in their respective language community. You would have to create whitelists for every community because it would not be fair to only make one for the E2 community.

Which brings me to my last point that I think it's highly unlikely that the staff team is actively going to keep up with these seperate white lists. The way this suggestion is pictured is very rosy, but as mentioned in earlier posts it will be very unpractical and too much work. It's going to be too much of a hassle and frankly, it's not a moderators' job but an admins job to take care of something like this. And surely we don't want to give them even more work to do, right?

No support.

E2 is more populated than EN lately, thanks to A801 deciding to shift all UK/AU/US/et cetera players there. And as well, why should someone, like Yogi for instance, be forced to play on a server they don't regularly go to just because of the fact that they've moved elsewhere? That's highly unfair.
Also, private rooms are still filtered. :p

I actually get that, but I feel like the possibility of this would be slimmer. It can still be a thing though. :p Just let that community's staff handle it then.

How will it be too much work? As I said, it'd be no different from moderator applications -- you read it, you accept or deny them. You're on the forum anyway so why will it matter to take an extra... what, two minutes out of your day, to read an application?
It's not like you'll be getting THOUSANDS of applications a day.

Regardless, thank you for your concerns.

Agreed.

There is already an international english server. If you can speak English, you can play there. And you should develop something about abusing of International English server - a lot ppl talking their own language there and i think it is not appropriate- instead of creating a whitelist.

You clearly missed the point of it being the international English server then. :p

For reference:
-EN1 is considered an international community which means that players from all countries are allowed to play here. Moderators may warn or mute players that aren't speaking English only if they are severely disrupting the chat and they have a community they can return to. For the players that do not have a home community, we ask that you ignore them by typing /ignore (name).

As I said. I think you didn't read carefully. It is an English speaking server. What's the point of insisting on playing in E2 while there is already one public.

Yes...?
I'm not suggesting E2 become another International English. I very plainly explained that you would still have to speak English only and would be punished as such if you speak any other language. I'm not getting your point at all to be honest.
It's not fair to users who speak fluently or are studying overseas, but can't play where their friends play.
