Want your maps to become P17? Read this. |

Barry, my maps "P17'ed" still are P1 and P22 ;-; If this month have more pros, you could increase to be able to send 3 maps. |

The "P17'ed" maps aren't immediately P17'ed. They are added to whichever racing group has the least amount of maps, usually. These maps were added to Group 2, and Group 0 is playing right now. That means the maps will be P17 during the month of April. I'm not sure I want to increase the map limit. As it is now, the thread is only open for two weeks out of the month with a 2 map limit and I usually have around 200 maps to review. That's all I want to deal with. A few people have come to me saying that they don't think there's anything wrong with having a few maze-like maps in racing. I agree! If I wasn't clear before let me be clear now - there is nothing wrong with having some maps like the ones I complained about in racing. The problem is that it seems like the only maps that players know how to make anymore are perfectly-aligned maps with a billion obstacles and tight maze-like corridors. The goal I'm trying to achieve here is getting players to make different kinds of maps again. There is always a trend. Years ago I would get a bunch of maps in each review that consisted of a bunch of square grounds. This is lazy mapmaking and this is exactly what happens when mapmakers constantly create maps to achieve perms rather than just creating maps when they have ideas. If you're making maps every day then slow down! So, I am ignoring all maps with the features that I complained about right now to force mapmakers to try something different temporarily. I'm not going to ignore these kinds of maps forever. |

I already noticed that there was a positive effect on the maps with this ignored map with the features that you complained about There were maps with concepts that were not used for years, and maps were mostly fun But I think in the next review will come many bad maps, because the players now want to make sloppy maps thinking that this way they will win P17 |

Many people came to show me some maps that they thought fit the parameters you created Barry, the result was a lot of maps that are lazy to complete, with many obstacles, but not aligned ... They did not understand the true incentive that you gave, to create maps with innovative themes, that makes you, me and anyone want to play several times the same day. I agreed with Jotatavo, next review will have a lot of "bad maps" |

Nob mapmakers will always be nob mapmakers. I can give them advice, but that does not mean they will make a fun map with it. It's like how you can learn to play an instrument, but that doesn't mean you can write a good song. As I just said "If you're making maps every day then slow down!" I'm a nob mapmaker myself. I don't have much creativity for mapmaking. I make an average of 1 or 2 maps per year because I only make maps when I have a good idea. I see lots of people submitting 2 maps to the P17 thread every month. Very few mapmakers are creative enough to make good maps this often. Most of the time these mapmakers are the ones making uninspired maps. I think a lot of people just place a bunch of grounds in random locations and hope it works. Those people are only ruining their own chances as over time, I (or any reviewer) will learn which players' maps are bad and will spend less time looking at them in the review. What mapcrew think abuot the using of webs in racing maps? |

Webs are the type of obstacle that are not fun 90% of the time, but they can be used in a few fun ways. When webs were new we saw a lot of web maps submitted to all categories and they were all terrible. I can only think of one collision P9 that used webs in a decent way and now your racing map. Like everything else in maps, it all comes down to whether it's fun or not, but it's difficult to make web maps fun. |

I'm think about get some kind of oldschool maps and put the webs with the spaces between they to work like a obstacle, I really hope it works fine... Dernière modification le 1489616220000 |

Give it a shot. I know this sounds basic, but it all comes down to whether the map is fun or not, regardless of which obstacles or features are used. |

I hate how many racing map makers create skill maps for racing. I don't think I should need to wonder "Do I need a to be a professional statpadder in order to complete this map" whenever I play racing. It should be a medium difficulty gamemode require a grasp for more advanced maneuvers in the game but not total mastery. Bootcamp exists for a reason. Racing should consist of maps that exist for the concept of "who can get to the hole the fastest" not "who is skilled enough to make it to the hole with the cheese". |

Plzpinkiepie a dit : I find this somewhat ironic that you're saying this during classic month of racing; where there are really easy and straightforward maps in rotation. That said, if you want to report a map which you find too difficult for the majority of the racing playerbase, I recommend you post in this report thread.. |

Plzpinkiepie a dit : Racing has a wide variety of maps in every rotation, not just hard ones. I see a decent amount of map creators who make racing maps a little difficult, which is fine because racing should have easy, medium, and hard maps, however, that doesn't mean that only hard maps are being put into racing's rotation. Drescen a dit : I am pretty sure that most racing maps are tested by mapcrew members who specialize in that category before being permed, although I could be wrong. If a map was too hard, I think a mapcrew member would've known that before perming it, but that's my 2 cents. |

Grimmaro a dit : Having been present for one of Barry's racing reviews, I can say noob-testing applies to some extent, but generally the maps aren't rejected or accepted based on the map's ability to be completed by newer players; in P17, from my experience, difficulty of the map is not given the same amount of consideration as other categories such as P7.
