@lucycat I agree with this, however call me butthurt or something but little to no artists go with the 100% realistic mouse style, but rather the second one you listed. imo the second one looks fair to me besides the front legs if your going for a less realistic style. However it was useful and I will try to base it off of my next drawing! |

Piggybacking on birdluv, a lot of artists use that "style" simply because it's what the Transformice game uses. For instance, they use that circular hind leg and cover the hands in fur. And while the first example is anatomically correct, it would be impossible to critique an anthropomorphic / bipedal mouse with it, which also plays a role in why so many people don't use it. I do however think that you pointed out good ways to use a more realistic art style, though! Dernière modification le 1443997680000 |

Yes, I understand people have styles, however, you need to learn what you are drawing before you stylize or else it's just going to look plain weird and you won't improve. Nowhere in my post did I say draw realistically, I said use photo references. This was a critique. Its like drawing a car that actually looks like a boat and saying "it's your style", you need to own up to your mistakes. Neither is it impossible to critique anthropomorphic animals as anatomy applies there too. Dernière modification le 1444000740000 |

bonbonthebun a dit : Not a critique but I do want to help you out with a tip: You might want to explore on Linework Layer in SAI You should also expose yourself to more tutorials and studies ^_^ Just noting here: I won't be really giving critiques here, but more of tips and tricks of young artists. I realize a majority of the artist here are not aiming to be serious artist, but more of those which likes to draw to satisfy him/herself. I doubt most of you are willing to even start learning fundamentals and all, its a big thing to cover. But if you guys really happen to be doing serious art and want some critics, i can tryyy... but its really up to you Dernière modification le 1444042560000 |

Lucycat a dit : My 2 cents: I personally know how to draw a realistic mouse traditionally IRL. Digital art? It's my way of expressing that I am capable of drawing on a computer. Now, my traditional art looks hella more "mouse" looking than my digital art because I choose what I want my style to be. And by all means, I'm still learning even though I have found my digital style. Anatomy? Still working on it. What I'm getting at, is it's a choice to draw a mouse realistically or cartoony. Most people draw it cartoony because it's easier and more fun than a real mouse with a party hat. When someone chooses to draw cartoony, that's when they get creative and draw something like my profile pic. I'm sorry that you throw up in your mouth when you see all the amazing art people do and it's not realistic enough for you. Actually, I"m not sorry. :) |

^"Cartoon" can also have anatomy issues, but theyre dealt with in a different manner than realistic art would be. "Style" has little to do with that-- and most good critiquers on this thread are aware of that, too, and they keep that in mind when theyre critiquing (: |

Broncosfan a dit : You clearly did not read anything I said. I never said draw realistically nor did I say I have a problem with cartoon styles. You're trying to make a problem out of something that never happened. |

Wingedmousie a dit : Hi, this is a really nice picture :D!! Unless the chest you drew was actually supposed to be that way. This is mostly what stuck out to me. |

Can someone tell me how to make the arms look more like theyre trying to hug something? It's gonna be a bouquet of flowers. Critiqueing the rest of the body could would be great, too Redlines are good help, if you can do one. Thanks |

griffincraft a dit : Reference are the best thing to refer to then you want to find posture, it shows the most natural way of someone doing something comfortable or something possible. In fact, by looking it out, most people dont hug the bouquet, the hold it near at the bottom, though there are still most that hugs it, but not like that! Once you look and study (not eye power! try understanding how it works by practising, then drawing it in different angles!) items like bouquets arent paper, they are not flat . The hugging posture you have is more of a crossing the arm type of posture, where it is resting on the chest. to make it easy, draw the object 1st! dont draw the arm 1st, then build it up from there! I did one on hugging and one on holding the bouquet its not perfect and all because i am in a rush but its 65% there Dernière modification le 1444453740000 |

I ended up not doing the "holding a bouquet" look (because in the end I dont have the guts to send it as a get well drawing to my crush) so I went with this look. Every time I flip the canvas though the head seems wrong and odd, but I cant find a way to fix it myself. Could someone help with that? Critique on the rest of the body is welcome, too Also, how should I change it if the lineart were to be flipped to give a "back view" of that pose? All I know is that you change the details to make it look like we're viewing him from the back side, but how should I do that in this case? (It's going to be a reference image, so I'm going to need to draw his backside) Redlines are really helpful if possible |
