Some are acceptable, and I agree with yoyo, it helps us see the differences in different communities. Plus some are okay if you use it in a specific way.
For example "u". The abbreviation of "you" is one that bugs me the most.
It's fine if you say "Y U DO DIS" or something in a more jokish kind of tone. But if you go and use it in your normal day to day speech like "u r a noob, u need to learn how to play" etc. is annoying. I mean typing two extra letters isnt that hard.

I don't really have a problem with abbreviations though, I think they help define a community.

the short forms for the game are ok (sp, gj, ect) but i /hate/ how people use "u" or "ur". it's like they never have the time to spell "you" or "your/you're". pls doesn't bother me a lot either, but i'm not a fan of plz.
