Do you really expect to make it to the shortlist on your first attempt at the contest? Wow.
There are some mapmakers here who have been entering for several months, since the beginning of 2012 or even earlier who have made it to the shortlist once or twice.
Considering you are new to mapmaking and you still don't understand many mapmaking aspects which I can see from your posts on the forum, you should'nt just quit on your first go at a contest.
Work on your maps, improve your skill and keep aspiring to win, thats what I would do, and have done in the past. ^^

My very first time on the shortlist. All the other maps look so cool!
I'm so happy. I've never even had a map in discussion before
so this is a dream come true even if I don't place in the final or do. <3
