You only revive with cheese if you had cheese when you died. But yeah it came about in a recent update.

On prophunt I can't see the mice (or myself) after hitting E to become an object. I only see the nametags with nothing underneath. Is there any solution to this??

it was a collector's item for cheese only [?] so unless you bought it before/during the cooking adventure, you can't get it until the cooking adventure comes around again

Instead of going to 801, go to a village room in the rooms list. Tig's figure should be on the roof of the house on right when you spawn. If he's not there, then search around the bottom of the map. Sometimes people will throw consumables and it can potentially push him out of his original location.
(Also, if you need to find Elise and Papaille, they're in the tree house with the bed)
