So, something I did last year was very special, I made a map to reflect upon the year. And for this year, I planned to do the same, but, I had made a mistake.

I made my map not out of memory, but out of hatred, regret, out of grief. I wanted everything to be about why we should look at religion, and criticize it, and while I still agree that it should be criticized, I have realized, that while this may be, this was not coming from my heart, this was not something I wanted to remember the year by, so I edited my end of the year map at the last moment.

To those about to open the spoil, please, this year, there was nothing about what happened this year, this is what happened with me this year. There were so many good things that happened this year, such as when Gay Marriage was legalized in the US. I was so happy that day. There were so many good things this year, and just as many bad, but this End of the Year map is not about those, it is about my year. And my year was not good, so if you so choose to read about my End of the Year Map, and my year itself, open the spoiler, but, please, learn from what I am writing, as I had learned myself.

This, was the map I had originally wanted to show. This year my love had to go back to her country from America, I loved her because of the things she told me. She was a Muslim, but, she told me she didn't agree about the constant executions of Atheist, she was actually surprised her country was part of the 13 countries where Atheism is punishable by death. We would always talk, she was so sweet, she truly believed all religions should get along together, without fighting, but religions, and there-lack of, and she always spoke of peace, real, peace, not the kind of peace where you defeat an enemy, but one where no one is your enemy.

People started finding out that we were speaking to each other, and eventually her family took her back to her country, back out of America, and I don't know all of what happened, but word got around, and everyone titled her atheist, her family told me she was executed afterwards, and then would not let me know anything else.

I was devastated, and I even wanted revenge. I would cry on days, I missed her so much, as I miss her now. This is what made me want to make this map, it made me feel hate.

Then sometime along this December, long after I decided on the year map, I heard a song, this, song.


It made me think of her, but it made me remember her for the things she said, so I decided it was not right to make such an important map with so much hatred inside me. For that is not what she would have wanted. She would have wanted me to remember her for being the only one I knew who saw me not as a "heaven" or any of the other things her family said, but as a human.

So instead of making a map where I was filled with hatred, I wanted to make the same map, but filled with love instead.

The lower hand was hers, the upper hand is mine. I decided to keep the Arabic translation, because of how I feel. I removed the X from life, because I feel so long as I still remember her and the things she wanted, she will always be alive. And I placed it over a new word, a word that I should remember to leave behind, Hatred.

Please, for everyone, this year, instead of hate, instead of revenge, instead of any bad memory, let us love.

For those who read the spoiler, I want you to have a very happy new year, for new years is not just a day we switch the calendars, or a day we use to get drunk or look at fireworks, it is a day to remember a year, and to reflect upon the rebirth of a brand new year.
