I think they want us to start from scratch, and it being 100% made by us and not anyone else

But they're assuming it isn't a form of art when it is, and that the only acceptable form is drawing. That's not how all artists go about things.

They want drawings because it's a drawing contest. They wouldn't have accepted a drawing for the cosplay contest because the purpose of the cosplay contest was to submit your cosplay. This is merely their choice for what they want the purpose of the contest to be and I don't think anyone intended for it to be an insult towards other forms of art. They're not accepting animation either and they probably wouldn't accept sculptures, so I don't see why you're seeing this as an attack against one form of art.

As Veralidaine said, they're focusing on a certain kind. They aren't disregarding photo-manipulation because they don't believe it's art; they just want us to draw our entries.

They've called it a fan art contest, not a fan drawing contest. I'm not blind as you seem to surmise. I find you people sickening and ignorant.

And to add to that, I never said it was an attack on a single form of art. I was merely making a point that the disallowment has put some people at a severe disadvantage, including myself. I also said that drawing is not how all artists go about their work, which refers to multiple forms of art.

Look at the other threads in this forum. Just about every single one (I haven't checked them all but from just looking at the ones with the most posts you get the idea) is showcasing the artist's fan drawings. That is undeniably the most popular form of transformice art so it is completely reasonable that they would hold a fan art contest for drawings. Besides, how do you even expect them to judge a photo manipulation against a drawing? There are completely different factors that go into critiquing those. This makes it easier on everyone. If you don't want to draw, quit complaining over semantics and simply don't enter the contest.

Still, there is a point in time when on these forums where I get sick of people telling me to conform. Art is not a conformist thing. Not wholly. If I wanted to submit photomanip. they can judge it as if it was a drawing or any other piece of art. It really isn't so complicated. And please, don't tell me what to do.

It’s like saying you want to make a song, since it’s also a type of art, like photo manipulation. Theyre both a different kind of art, so it wouldnt be the same to judge them both because they have different factors which I’m guessing would be critequed differently. In drawings, there would be the factors of anatomy, vividness in colors or the size proportions. I for one do not know much about what goes into photo manipulation, so I wouldnt be the one to know about critiquing it, but both drawing and manipulating definitley dont consist of the same factors and are both made in very different ways, which would mean they both have to be critiqued differently..
Plus, like I said far above, my guess is that they want us to start from scratch instead of using someone else’s photographic work and edit it drastically for the contest.

If you dont want to draw or cant draw well, then dont enter the contest.. It isnt a hard concept to grasp :P

Veralidaine summed it up quite nicely. There is certainly no reason to get angry over this in a public thread. If you are not satisfied with the rules or the explanations given above, you are welcome to pour out your anger at me in a private message, as I was the one who put the rules together. These users are doing their best to explain the rules to you and they do not deserve to be called sickening nor ignorant. I appreciate that you guys ask questions, but if you want to get angry and fight, posting in public is not the best idea.

As for your question, it has been mentioned that you simply cannot judge photo manipulation and drawings together.
Many artists take their time to draw pictures from scratch, they work hard on the background, they use their skills to draw every little detail of the piece and they often spend hours just sketching out how the mice will look like. Then there is a person who takes pictures from the game and somehow puts them together and takes a background they find on google. Now, I do not want to say photo manipulation is this, but can you imagine how many users would actually do this if it was allowed? They would steal pictures from the internet that were NOT made by them. I do not believe that comparing someone who draws to someone who puts different pictures together is "easy" and I think it is completely normal to distinguish these.

Not to mention that there are many other categories of art - only Fine arts are comprised of glass blowing, sculptures, painting and so on. Then there is photography, writing; even music, drama and dance are considered art. Nobody in here said that photo manipulation is not art, however, it is simply something that is not a part of this contest, as throwing all of these into one contest would be disrespectful and unfair. They are different and so they should be judged separately. This is a drawing contest, which is why we do not want any other forms of art to ensure that all entries are judged fairly and equally.

This subforum is called Fan arts and the contest is a "Fan Art" contest simply because this subforum is mostly full of drawings and people have always understood 'drawing' under this term. Besides, it is clearly explained in the starting post. I apologize if you are not satisfied with this contest, hopefully, your needs will be satisfied by a better contest sometime in the future.

I understand. I'm obviously never going to be satisfied but I guess I can understand when you put it that way. You don't want to have to deal with a mass of submissions that simply don't meet the requirement. I know my arguing served no justice and for that I'm sorry, I'd just rather things play to my strengths a little more.

As said a while back, there are too many entries from a huge variety of communities and it is too complicated to reply to each of them. If you did everything outlined in the starting post, you can be sure your entry will be reviewed by the judges.
