Musicaholic a dit :
While I do admit that blocking certain keywords would be a good idea, I don't think that would change things by much. I've played games with such keywords before, and people easily avoided them by changing up the spellings a little bit or unincluding one letter, so that they were still able to be vulgar even with the keyword system.
I believe everything under 13 is under age in this case.

There are always ways around things like that but atleast it'd show that transformice is TRYING to do something about it. It's a step in the right direction, I said. It won't fully correct the problem.. but it's far better than doing nothing at all. Also, things like that could easily be corrected if a mod actually moderated chat... they'd notice mice posting "r/a/p/e" to get around it and could make that be blocked by the keyword filter, too.

I'm 11, don't hurt me, but I got permission from my parents. They sometimes watch me play the game. Am I breaking the rules?

Something, I forgot what it was, said that you were allowed to play Transformice if you are under 13 as long as you have permission from your parents.

Moderators have nothing to do with the filtering system; that's all down to the administrators. If you feel like there are *more* words to be added to the filter list, you could probably sent a message on the contact form with suggestions, but filtering words like "r/a/p/e" wouldn't work very efficiently. People would figure out other ways around it, such as "r.a.p.e" or "raape" or whatnot.

Uh... I already stated how that would be easily corrected. If mods actually moderated chats then they would see what words were being used such as "r.a.p.e" or "raape" (see my suggestion of blocking "r/a/p/e" was only 1 example) and they would set those terms to be blocked by the filter, too. It's not that hard of a concept to grasp, really. As i stated before, sure there'd be ways around it but atleast transformice would be doing SOMETHING instead of turning their heads to important issues at hand. In my opinion, it would work.. and if the list of words for the filter to block was updated on a regular basis.. to the point of the only way a mouse would be able to get past it would be to type "r . a pe" or something obnoxiously stupid and time consuming... it would require too much of that mouse's time, forcing them to just change what they were going to say in chat. When you suggest things, mods usually are the first to read them and then bring the ideas to the admins... (or so i thought.) so I don't think i was in the wrong to ask about "mods" rather than "admins"... and even if i was, It's just kind of a nit-picky thing to focus on...and you're missing the big picture because mods could easily make a list and pass that list onto the admins to update the word filter, too. Transformice should really attempt it first before just saying "it wont work" and doing nothing. I mean.... I know it's the easier thing to do here... but come on.

they already made an effort by putting in the filter to begin with. and youre making your idea sound like it would be executed so effeciently and that the filter should be a top prioritiy, but neither of those are correct. the admins have much more important things to worry about, and "mods passing to admins" more than likely isnt as fluid as you are making it seem either. if you dont like what someone says in chat, report them. thats what you're gonna hear, and thats what you should do. theres also the mute function. you have all these tools in your hand already, you should make use of them instead of demanding more.

I'll just requote this to be read before I respond.....

Spookshow a dit :
I think the 13+ rule should be followed simply because the mindset of someone below the age of 13 can be weak. They are still growing and learning and can be effected very negatively by things that someone of a more mature age could just brush off. Good Example from a quote off someone here

there is a reason why certain movies have age limits and I feel as though this game's content... despite being cute.. can be very mature for a 9 year old simply because of the fact that it has an open chat. I've had 10 year olds whisper to me, giving me their personal information right off the bat without even asking for it. They are not old enough to compreheand the danger in doing that. They need those few extra years to build up an awareness. Just because you were introduced to the internet at a young age, does not mean you are ready for it.
Part of the fact that they're still maturing... there are children that think it's cool to act older than what they are... hence the sex talk and vulgar language. Cursing should remain allowed to an extent.. just certain statements should be counted as offences. It is so much of a problem that it's seen on a regular basis and hardly anything is ever done about it despite the multiple reports that are made. The issue is that they are old enough to know what certain words are, but not old enough to understand the effect those words can have. It creates an unpleasant gaming experience for everyone else around, especially when topics like "rape" are being mentioned and joked about. Some of it is so bad it qualifies for sexual harrassment. The first steps to tackle this problem head on would be to ban anyone/everyone who admits to being under the age of 13 ....and to prevent certain keywords from being posted in chat. Proper moderating is key, in my opinion.

edit* to go into greater detail on what i mean by having certain keywords prevented from being posted in chat... here's a story for an example: Mouse1 was fighting with mouse2 in chat. Everything being said was posted until Mouse1 tried saying "I'll rape your mom". The chat system automatically recognized the word rape being used and would not let the text go through until mouse1 changed what they were going to say to something more appropriate like "Whatever. Your mom eats poop" (Mice can still be immature but less vulgar which is why I think this is a good idea that is worth looking into & trying.)

Okay then what would YOU suggest they do about the issues at hand? Because what's "already being done" about it, obviously isn't working. Having a keyworld filter that actually.... filters out filthy words.... SHOULD be a top priority if you're not going to enforce the 13+ rule because children under that age who do play this can be effected very negativly by it. Having the power to "mute" someone doesn't prevent the child from being exposed to it. They still saw the vulgarity that was posted before recognizing they should set that person on ignore. That's what you're not getting. I am honestly baffled at how someone could say there's more important issues at hand than underage children getting permanently effected or emotionally scarred by mature content from your game.

& if it really would take up too much of your time *eye roll* you could get a group of qualified volunteers to do the work for you.. because believe it or not...there are people who actually care and are willing to solve this serious problem..... Plus it's not as if they'd have to monitor different variations of people posting 2983642856428648 different words. it's only a few very mature words that they'd have to watch out for and there's already keyword filter lists for different variations of those words on the internet that they could start out with and just add onto when monitoring chats.

this thread isnt about what should be done to help the younger ones who break the rules, its about the fact that they are breaking the rules of being here in the first place. the admins arent going to accomodate to people who are breaking the most basic rule. if they see something on a game for in which the rules state is for 13+, then thats their own fault. the admins have filtered words that are inapporiate for people in the 13 age area, but they are also not breaking the rule of under 13. so as you see, why should the admins put harsher rules on players who are following the most general rule because of those who arent?

BECAUSE UNDERAGE CHILDREN ARE BEING NEGATIVLY EFFECTED BY IT ON DEEP PSYCHOLOGICAL LEVELS? that is why. You can not place blame on children for the site not doing a good enough job of enforcing it's rules.

i understand what you are telling me, but ultimately it is their choice to be on a game that states to be 13 years or older, and thus they have to deal with that type of environment.

a 9 year old who gets emotionally scarred for life from joining what appeared to be a cutesy mouse game shouldn't be the only one held accountable for breaking a rule the game should be activily enforcing on a regular basis.... wow. Yes he was in the wrong for ignoring the t.o.s but it's the sites fault that he was exposed to such harming and vulgar words.

the 9 year old should be held very accountable since its on the first page which you see when you first boot the game up that says you need to be 13 years or older.

I meant to say he shouldn't be the only one held accountable. It is obviously a problem on transformice's side, too and they should be trying to actually correct it because their "correction" of it now obviously isn't working... hence the whole reason this thread was made and is up to 842 replies.
