Wow I'm really sorry about this. Updates soon, maybe?? Agamyszka a dit : I appreciate that comment from February Lordfuzzy a dit : You jinxed it Bastlase a dit : I want to finish this thoroughly! I really do. I just lose motivation a lot for two reasons: 1) I always feel like I have other work I should be doing 2) Pretty much every user-submitted character no longer reads this / is active, and introducing / using them feels kinda weird. I should probably use them anyway. |

Chapter 11 ABCIn the following silence, the positive atmosphere dwindled. Most mice had already turned back to their empty trays to resume twiddling their thumbs or reassuring themselves that they’d be alright. A handful, whether they were fully conscious of it or not, continued staring at Zipp for a while. Perhaps they anticipated another speech. Or perhaps they thought he was a lunatic. ABCSlowly, Zipp felt the rush of adrenaline die down. He centered his focus around his own table again, not feeling particularly ecstatic nor miserable. Just something in between. It was odd, really. From the moment he began to speak, he felt as if he were more of an outsider to the whole ordeal, sympathizing with his listeners rather than living among them. He enjoyed the brief feeling of neutrality, though he found that mild panic and devastation began to rise within him after some minutes. He looked at the two other mice sitting with him as a distraction. He noticed that Rose, too, had been glaring at him in some form of curiosity. At least she seemed to be coming to her senses a bit more. Midnight was no longer trembling so violently, and her breathing slowed to a more regular pace. ABCOnce again, Zipp realized how exhausted he was from the day’s events. He felt his eyelids growing heavier, his train of thought disappearing, his vision blurring— ABC “C’mon, this again? You can sleep when you’re in the dorms!” Zipp’s eyes swung open. Again, he jumped and swiftly shifted his body towards the authority. He was looming over a bit more than comfortable for Zipp, though he couldn’t be bothered to mind it very much. This was still the least intimidating blue-banded worker he’d seen so far. ABC”Sorry,” he replied casually. “Are we going there now?” ABC”The dorms? Sorta.” The authority wasn’t condescending when asked a question. Zipp liked that. ABCZipp stood up from the table. “And by sort of, you mean…” ABC”They’ll need to assign you a room, so you’re not out of the woods just yet with waiting,” he explained. “But don’t worry, you should be able to sleep all you want once you get to the dorms! You’ll need the rest before your first day training.” He mentioned training as if it were some kind of sport. Challenging, but all-in-all fun. After a momentary pause, he added, “Just, uh, don’t fall asleep again while you’re waiting. You got lucky to get stuck with me so far, but some of the other authorities here? No so nice about sleeping outside of night hours.” ABCZipp looked back at Rose and Midnight sitting. Sure, he hadn’t known them long, but he felt bad just walking away from them. He wasn’t even so sure he’d see them again. Huh, actually, that was a good point. How many bootcampers were there? Would he ever see them aga- ABC”Hey, Sip! Stop daydreaming, we’ve got to situate a lot of newcomers today!” the worker interrupted his thoughts. ABC”Sorry! Let’s go,” he said quickly, not shifting his eyes away from the two just yet. ABCHe began to walk back toward the cafeteria doors he had brought Zipp in from. Zipp took a few steps with his head still turned back at the table, then he finally looked away. He went past the other tables, past the nasty ratmice that were still chattering and laughing like idiots, and through the doors. ABCHe noticed quite a few mice staring at him as he left. Comments FINALLY, a new chapter! I know! Bastlase a dit : Yeah, sorry about that. I think I'll try to go with the characters I have now, but I'll let you know if that changes! Gadgetrocks a dit : Thank you! I'm glad you enjoy reading it :) |

Chapter 12 ABCMore waiting. ABCZipp quietly sat in a seat in a corner of the room. It was a small, one-room building that lacked windows or space to breathe. Chairs lined all of the walls, save for one spot where the door was and another spot with a reception window. It wasn’t quite as hectic as the previous waiting room—being escorted one-by-one made everything a lot less crowded. There weren’t many mice in the room, nor did any seem to be waiting in a particular order. It seemed that the receptionists just liked to take their sweet little time with everything, Zipp figured. ABCThe few other mice were spread out among the chairs in the room. They all sat alone, yet again, Zipp could immediately see the distinction between those who wanted to be there and those who felt like prisoners there. There was still an insufferable silence in the room. The lack of natural light made Zipp nauseous. The air felt stuffy, and it smelled funny. A metallic taste lingered in his mouth from the water he had earlier. God, this room must’ve been made to disappoint one’s senses. ABC”Next.” ABCAcross the small room, a mouse stood up and approached the window. He didn’t seem very excited about it. ABC”Name?” ABC”Hunter.” ABCThe receptionist shifted through some papers. Another searched through a file cabinet in the back. While he was waiting, Zipp noticed the mouse scratch at the band around his wrist a bit. ABC”Here,” the receptionist half-muttered while opening a manila folder. He took a moment to glance through the document, then looked back up at Hunter. In a monotone voice, he told him, “Dorm 117B. There are plenty of workers around outside if you get lost.” ABCHe nodded, and turned to head for the dorms. For a brief moment, he exchanged glances with Zipp, and gave one of those cheesy, worried smiles that really said, God, what sort of hell we wound up in. ABCAs the time went on, the receptionist sluggishly called each mouse up. Every so often, newcomers would trickle in from the cafeteria, replacing the mice that left to find their rooms. Zipp wondered if he would be there long enough to see Rose or Midnight wander in. ABC”Next.” ABCHe thought about whether he’d ever find out what happened to Rose. ABC”Next.” ABCHe never actually made sure that Midnight’s ribs were all intact after being kicked. ABC”I said, next,” the receptionist hissed. ABCZipp suddenly realized he did not recognize anyone in the room from when he had walked in. He quickly got up and walked over, nearly apologizing for holding things up, but deciding not to at the very last moment. ABCThe receptionist flashed a disapproving expression at him before looking back down at his papers. “Name?” ABC”Zipp,” he felt slightly panicked again. “It’s Zipp.” ABC”Spell it.” ABC”Z-I-P-P.” He was staring at the blue plastic strip around the mouse’s wrist. It looked a bit worn out. ABCThere was shuffling through papers. The receptionist in the back handed him a folder. Zipp noticed that his mouth felt dry. The receptionist thumbed through some documents. ABCThe door burst open. A grey mouse entered the room with an abnormal comfortability and immediately approached the reception window. “Hey, a couple of my friends and I wanna know what the deal is with delayed meals today.” ABCZipp expected the receptionist to tell him to take a seat or something. Instead he replied, “It’s newcomer day. You already know how these days work.” ABC”Nope, it never took this long in the past. What gives?” ABCZipp just wanted to get his room so he could be alone. ABC”There’s a lot of them arriving today. It will take a bit longer than usual to get them all set up,” the receptionist replied, stone-faced. He really didn’t care that Zipp’s dorm assigning had been interrupted. That aggravated him. ABC”So when will the Caf be open to everyone else?” ABCThat wing hat he had on looked ridiculous. ABC”I couldn’t tell you. That’s not my job.” ABC”Can’t you ask someone that would know?” ABC”Can’t you wait for your turn just like everyone else here?” Zipp half-muttered to the grey mouse. It was a bit louder than he meant for it to be, though he wasn’t too sure if he had intended for the mouse to hear it or not. It was a spur of the moment, out-of-sheer-annoyance thing to say. ABCThe mouse turned to him, first with a quite hostile look, then with a dumbfounded-yet-overconfident expression. “Oh,” his voice spoke in a higher pitch than before, “forgive me, I must have interrupted something important!” He was condescending. “I’m sooo sorry to have gotten in your way.” ABCZipp didn’t say anything. His face was stern, but he couldn’t help but feel that he looked weak. ABCHe poked a finger at Zipp’s chest. ”Listen, kid, you don’t even know what you’re in for here,” he loudly whispered in a much deeper tone this time. “You don’t get to call the shots. To everyone else, you’re a nobody unless you can really prove you’re something else.” He turned to the receptionist. “All I’m saying is, they better feed us soon.” ABCHe turned to walk out, but as he passed Zipp, he jeered, “I can already tell this place is gonna eat you alive.” Zipp had nothing to say in response. He was frozen in silence, slightly trembling in a mixture of fear and hatred, as the grey mouse left the room. After a few moments, he faced the reception window again. ABC”My, uh,” his dry throat made his speech sound broken up. He coughed in hopes of clearing it, and tried again, “What’s my room?” ABC”Dorm 223C. There are plenty of workers outside if you get lost.” The receptionist especially stressed the latter part to Zipp. It made him furious. He knew how stupid everyone must have figured he was. ABC”Thanks,” he spat, and walked out. Updates & Announcements Sorry with the bit of a wait! The chapter has actually been written for a few weeks, but I kept putting aside the chapter art ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ A couple of things: -Bootcampers finally has an updated banner! It is now in the OP of this thread. -To prevent these hiatuses from happening, I'm strongly considering creating a schedule for the chapters. So, rather than me posting a new chapter the moment I finish it (which is always random), any chapters that I finish will be posted one per week. This way, I can stock up on chapters when I'm feeling motivated and have time to relax when I'm not so eager to write them. Not to mention that the consistency would probably make a lot of readers happier with the story. It's not so fun reading a new chapter of something after months of inactivity since readers may forget previous details and character names. Comments Smalltoes a dit : <3 Lordfuzzy a dit : Yes! I'm much more motivated than in the past to work on this now and if life is merciful to me, I may begin making a more consistent weekly schedule for chapters. Bastlase a dit : It won't! The chapter art is actually the most annoying part at this point, but I still want it to be in each chapter because it'd annoy me if I got rid of it tbh Dernière modification le 1515557940000 |
