Probably because saying "I'm gay" on a 2D mouse game is in no way related to the game itself and would most likely start arguement's or for that matter a flood of insults. |

Saying I'm gay does not get you muted (on EN). So stop arguing that XXfangx. Thank you! |

I wasn't inferring that saying "I'm gay" gets you banned/muted. I was simply stating that by telling people you're gay publicly will lead to insults and arguments. |

Xxfangx a dit : Please stop with the victim blaming, it's not helping your argument any. It's already been stated to you why stating your sexuality publicly is an okay and welcome thing on TFM. It's not someone's fault people are fuckos. |

If it does, then the people causing a ruckus would be muted not the I'm gay. Please stop arguing for people to be muted for it! |

Travelingpik a dit : I've been muted for 5 hours for saying that once. Also a different version with an actual homophobic slur. Both mute captions told me I am not allowed to use homophobic slurs and I am not allowed to use them pointed at myself either. I am just saying it happens, I am not trying to prove you wrong, but it actually happens. Whether you think so or not. Dernière modification le 1426276140000 |

Do mods have access to the entire room chat, even what was said before they joined? If not, it'd be really easy to wrongly mute people. |

"I'm gay" would just be in a single line, how would someone be wrongly accused? They're freely expressing themselves, not insulting anyone or a particular group of people, it's not offending anyone yet people still get muted. "I'm gay" does not have a double meaning (unless you refer it to its original meaning of happy). It just means that that person is a homosexual. People are being banned/muted for expressing who they are. How can you wrongly mute a person for expressing who they are? |

mollusc a dit : Can't say for recent events for I don't log in often anymore, but in the past this was the case. I had multiple discussions about it in irc and with moderators, muting all slur words without considering context was the norm. There's a larger problem as a whole in question here. A big portion of the words that are considered offensive towards the minorities have been given that status by not the community the words supposedly offend, but by the over-sensitive portion of our global society. The minorities usually like to be called by their original terms, but we, as a whole, have decided that it's derogatory and have come up with all these supposedly neutral terms for every minority, which in itself is derogatory and discriminating towards the minorities. They should have the say in what they find offensive, but since they're a part of a minority, their voice is being overrun by people who don't know what they're talking about. It applies to homophobia aswell as racism and even to people with various disabilities. |

I agree that banning someone for expressing their sexuality is wrong. (Though to digress, I've never seen anyone do so. Any and all instances I've witnessed of someone using the word "gay" have been attempts to insult someone else. It's probably because I'm usually on rooms without enough people to get firsts.) Well, maybe mods read a report about someone using "gay" as an insult, see someone say "I'm gay" and assume that person is at fault? I don't know. I think that's inexcusable. And I have no idea why anyone would get wrongly muted for saying so, which is why I'm just randomly coming up with baseless ideas. Sorry :P Edit: I agree with Prr. Brendanhahaha received mutes for using more offensive language than just 'gay', for the 5 hour mute. There is no chat log listed for his 3 hour mute, but the other two were for using homophobic slurs and have chat logs listed. |

Secretive a dit : I didn´t say I was muted all of the times for just saying "I`m gay", I have made clear I have been muted for multiple things. and I did make it clear that 2 of those 3 were my gay slurs used towards myself, and 1 towards someone else. I am only talking about the 2 times I used a homophobic slur towards myself. and that one was "I'm gay". I have the feeling you're trying to make it seem like I am hiding something or lying to blow things up, while I've obviously made it clear that I have said multiple things. |

If you have a gay friend, then call him by his name. It's just derogatory to address someone by their sexuality. Dernière modification le 1426519740000 |

I'd like to point out here that I was on one of the times Brenda was muted for only saying "I'm gay" and saying nothing else that would be considered homophobic (such as the derogatory f-word) or causing any problems in chat. When she whispered me about it, I wasn't really shocked because of how many times I've seen it happen, not only to her, but to other people. And I will point out that I have seen her muted reasonably. I'm not going to say that there weren't times she deserved it, because that wouldn't be true, but I have seen my fair share of unfair mutes. While I like to think that mods and arbs try their best, I do feel like there is a lot of power-hungry arbs and some unfair mods on EN. Far too many times I've seen people that have staff friends cry wolf to have people they dislike banned or having them 'protected.' It's a shame. And that's my two cents. |
