It only works if you do not have hard or divine mode enabled.

IMPORTANT: To get your email changed through the contact form, you must prove that you're the legitimate owner of the account.

When to use:
You have forgotten your email address.
You no longer have access to your email address and are unable to regain access.
Someone else stole your password and linked their email to your account.

To identify you as the account's owner, provide as much as possible of the following info:
Your Transformice account name.
What language server do you usually play on?
What email address is currently linked to your account?
In which city/country did you create your account?
Your current IP address (Use http://www.whatismyip.com/ if you're unsure).
Your sanction list: this is a list of all the mutes and bans you received. Moderators are not allowed to help you with this, you should be able to remember when you got banned or muted.
The number of fraises you've purchased, along with dates of purchase and means of pay (e.g. paypal, sms, etc.).
A list of who has access to your account (siblings, friends etc.).
Based on the situation, you may be asked for additional information.

Don't forget to provide a valid email address you would like to replace the current one with!

Possible outcomes:
If everything goes well, your email will be changed and you can use that email address to change your password.
Atelier 801 will not under any circumstance disclose private information about the current email address or whoever might have stolen your account, so don't ask!

it should change ingame after a simple refresh or after you relog (it does for me, anyways).

I use a computer, and for the browser I use google chrome.

To be honest when I used google chrome, before I knew you could download the game whenever I changed avatar I had to wait a while before I could see it on my profile, while those who HAD tfm downloaded could see my new avatar already, I don't know if It's still like this though. Try changing your avatar again

Sounds like a cache issue. You can clear your cache by pressing CTRL and F5 while on the Transformice website (the page will refresh), or you can do it manually by going to your browser's history -> clear browsing history -> selecting "cached images and files".

This was a user from Tig's old game, Extinction, which has since been discontinued and the accounts added to Transformice - hence how it was registered before Transformice was even released.
