Any kind mod would please contact me privately please? There is a player that is heavily scamming others stealing actual MONEY from them promising free fraises through codes.

I've been one hour trying to contact every single mod, reporting him, asking in the irc and I'm actually bothered by the fact that not a single person answered me.

So please, since there is people that has already been scammed contact me and i'll try to be as specific as possible and to include as many proof as i can.

What is the main reason someone has to be 18+ to apply and become a sentinel? I don't see why a -18, but mature someone can't help out on the forums.

still a bit vague. I know you can't work under the age of 18, with a few exceptions of course, but just helping out on a forum as sentinel seems a bit odd. Is it because of the title "sentinel" you're given that people expect certain things from you? Sorry if i'm acting difficult, and there is probably a good reason why people under the age of 18 can't be a sentinel. I'm just wondering ^^

Well, I probably could've explained a bit deeper. Sorry!
There's a French law which states volunteers for a corporation cannot be under eighteen. Since sentinels would be considered volunteers (as they don't get paid), and A801 is a full-blown corporation (note that this previously wasn't an issue and was more just a guideline back when A801 was just Transformice and just two people making a game), they'd rather be safe than sorry. :P

Okay, thanks a lot for the effort and by going so in-depth! I do now understand, even though it doesn't make that much sense to me. You can indeed still help out on the forums without any special title at all, like you're doing. Keep up the great work haru (and all other helpers)!

Well, the difference is that sentinels don't just "help," they also have moderation tools. Anyone can help, you're right. :>
And thanks!

Now that there's been another post, time to ask a question that's been on my mind for a few days.

What makes a user ban on sight (BoS)? Why are some users who are permanently banned permitted to return on new accounts, and when reported for evasion are told they're "letting them off due to good behaviour?"
They're quite obviously not behaving if they are breaking the rules, since last I heard ban evasion was a no no:

a dit :
EVASION
Mute evasion / Ban evasion
Evading a ban or mute will result in a higher punishment. If you feel that you were punished unfairly it is best to contact a moderator. The fastest way to reach us is through our IRC channel (#transformice).

So obviously, it's a bad thing. So why are some people allowed to evade and some aren't?

E - oh and why are users who are perm muted allowed to use the pm system

Haruhitastic a dit :
Why are some users who are permanently banned permitted to return on new accounts, and when reported for evasion are told they're "letting them off due to good behaviour?"

For the most part when to permanently ban someone and when to put them on BoS is decided on a case-by-case basis, but what usually happens is that multiple permanent bans lead to BoS. If we considered continuing to play the game after you have had an account permanently banned to be ban evasion there would basically be no difference between that and being added to BoS. Losing your account forever is supposed to be punishment enough, in theory.

If they continue to act the same as before on their new accounts that is when BoS status is considered, but it really is a last resort option for players who are deemed so toxic to the game that they need to be removed from it completely. So it is really helpful for you to report them when you see someone that you know was permabanned breaking the rules, but if they're behaving then they're fine.

I have no idea about your last question so I'll wait for a sent to answer that

It makes sense... I guess. I just know of a few users who were permed multiple times that are now permitted to hang on alts, and it just make no sense to me why to let them hang around.

Adding on to what Vera said it's important to mention that the ban evasion issue is something that has been (and still is being) discussed amongst staff recently. Partially it boils down to capacity issues - if someone is not causing trouble on their new account and not being too explicitly ban evading (e.g. "look at me I am BACK"), we generally have bigger fish to fry. If they are causing any sort of trouble, however, a single report can lead to a high sanction (because ban evasion) or even another permanent ban on the new account.

Haruhitastic a dit :

There are a few reasons for this. Firstly, we have separate sanctions for these. Someone can be permanently muted and be free to PM, and the opposite of permanently being blocked off the private messaging system while still being able to post normally is also possible. Since we can't check private messages (they're private and privacy is obviously important) we don't generally hand out PM sanctions. If this ever changes there will be a very clear announcement saying so.

A second and perhaps more important reason is that it's currently the default way for users to seek help from staff members - both for in game and forum issues. Even permanent forum mute appeals tend to be sent through private messages. We consider the contact form to be too overused and slow to be a proper alternative for this sort of appeal, whereas alternatives such as an email address for staff groups has proven to become problematic when staff members leave or simply forget to check yet another channel with information.

Alright, I understand, thank you very much for your time! I do want to address this:

Privacy is important, yet I'm told the user in question can't be punished for sharing private information about a user because it's being done privately?
I mean, I'm not angry at moderators, please don't take it that way (my lack of emojis certainly makes me look angry oops) I'm angry at the hypocrisy in the rules set forth by moderation (meaning administrators, sorry). The user in question who is sending me PMs shared Facebook information and private photographs of a user, yet I've been told by a large majority of staff there's nothing that can be done, even when there's multiple users with proof that they were sent the link. The user in question has also given full names of staff members too.
The one staff member who said he'd talk with staff, I've not heard anything about the issue since -- and considering how easily things can spread on this game (I know first hand), I'd like to think this is something that should've been nipped in the bud within the day.

I'll skip any case specifics, I rather discuss that personally.

I understand your frustration and totally get where you're coming from. There has been a handful of cases (definitely not more) where permanent PM sanctions were given out based on a lot of people individually reporting the same thing. In the end, however, it's very difficult from a moderation point of view to gather sufficient proof to actually warrant any action. We were given tools to sanction, without any way to determine who is to be sanctioned and under which circumstances. Combine this with the important role private messages have for communicating about other issues, we have little choice but to be very cautious with handing out sanctions of this type.
