I apologize. When I said "cute art" previously, it was because I found their cartoon-style drawings of mice to be cute. It did not realize so many others would jump on the "cute art" train. |

*Backs away quietly from Leafy's thread* It's clear to see, reflecting upon recent drama in the community and attacks against me, that I may be causing ideological divides within this family and accidentally igniting waves of hatred both against me and against those who are against me... Would it be an unreasonable assumption to conclude that my actions here have served to tear the fabric of this community apart? It would explain a lot of weird messages I receive, anyway. Please, everyone, do not take A0xis as any example of how to act and when to do so. If you ever find yourself thinking "this is kind of what a0xis would say" just delete your comment immediately. I want to post cartoon mice, I don't want to be responsible for corroding an entire community, and I don't want to be harassed and trolled all day long, either. Everyone needs to chill out, and this is coming from the least chill mouse on the site. Dernière modification le 1489600140000 |

Out of curiosity, for what are the light colored circles that you add to some of your sketches? I haven't seen that before, I dont think |
0 | ||
Griffincraft a dit : I cannot draw a circle myself, not digitally, so I slap a pen tool with 100% minimum pen pressure and gently tap the canvas to make myself a nice little perfect circle without hassle. I usually remove them after I sketch out a skull and face over them but sometimes I draw directly on the circle layer because I dont give a damn. Usually I don't use circles to map out the cartoon's anatomy, that's new and still in the experimental stage, but it helps me , through layering the circles above each other, to see how the perspective of the pose will work and how the weight of the body will set or which forms obscure other forms in the body. The additional circles will also help with consistency if I ever choose to animate. They can be a little dangerous because they don't facilitate huge deviations, but the circles could theoretically be modified to accommodate different body types and skull shapes when I'm comfortable and brave enough to make that attempt. I have a circle for the skull, a smaller circle for the chest, and two more skull-sized circles for the belly and cervix (they sort of act the same but one circle isn't enough room to accommodate the belly and hips at once, it helps me to think about the body being a bean, but I need a few hundred more hours of anatomical studies because I'm pretty sure I'm wrong) Maybe it's not correct whqt I'm doing and I should remove or add circles or other shapes in the future, but I unfortunately can't look to see how I'll draw then and plagiarize myself, so its circles for now. Just wondering, how do you get the ideas for your poses? You have an incredible imagination! I need to become more creative. |
0 | ||
@Astelyn Don't look up pose references or mass stick figure pose sheets because everything you're going to find will be either cliché, trash or inapplicable. What you need to do is start with these basic questions, What do I want to show about this character? How do I want the audience to feel? What can I do to facilitate the conversation between this character and the viewer? You want to elicit an emotional response from the viewer, even subconciously, and give insight into the character itself, and the choices and expression and body language you find you need to get the message across WILL provide you with a pose (provided you thought long and hard about what you need the peice to be or do). The pose is secondary to the message. Dernière modification le 1489793820000 |

I have no problem thinking of poses, but actually being able to draw the mouse in the position is hard for me. I fuck up the anatomy and then it looks disgusting so I completely erase it. Still working out the anatomy of combining mousey body with a human aspect to it. Thanks for the refs btw I have been using them! oh i love the facial expressions so much KEEP IT UP!! (i really like the honey one;) and the ones at the bar) Dernière modification le 1489802580000 |

Thank you thank you, you're all too kind to me. I'm still working on all that too and its really aggravating I don't have internet 90% of the time to get help. Peachy, to solve your problem all you have to do is, when you visualize your pose, break down the forms of the body into basic shapes (spheres and cylinders), or better, learn to create your mental poses WITH that simple shape sockpuppet. If you still cannot get the pose onto the paper, because you cant draw the shapes in your mind in correct relation to one another, you've got a fundamentals problem which you'll just have to iron out by drawing from life or using one reference (ALWAYS use a photo when you use one reference for a scene) and try to get the photograph onto your paper as realistically and close to the original as possible. Just practice drawing things as they are and not as they appear to be, its a basic skill that's so boring to practice but you've got to. I would also recommend drawing self portraits with a mirror until you get one that looks like you. I wonder if a sentinel will let me make an upkeep a drawing resource and fundementals thread because while the critique thread is great and I looooove being asked about things and what to do, my awesome advice gets lost pretty quickly. Others could post good resources and tutorials they find, also, so it would be a bit more productive and universally applicable than the critique thread. Of course the thread will read like a guide and instruction mannual on how to get started, what basics to learn, how to improve, and all the misconceptions and common mistakes people have. It would be an absolutely massive undertaking (I can think of a hundred topics to adress) so I wouldn't do it unless I received a promise the thread would be stickied at the top of the section.
