I'm sticking to tablets under $100 because they work just fine and I don't really think a higher-quality tablet is really gonna be so much better or magically make my art any better, so why buy it?

It looks like a lot of people are having problems getting Painttool SAI running on Windows 8 / 8.1 - even if they've gotten it to run before. From what I've heard, the new update Windows put out won't let the program run about 99% of the time. To fix this, right click sai.exe and click "Troubleshoot compatibility". Then click "Try recommended settings".

seeing young artists improve is great! like wow!
but if all youre gonna do is just ass pat them then they'll think they're fine as they are and never improve and we'll have an entire generation of kids who draw using ms paint circle tool

wish we had good critiquers too so the people who actually want help can get proper help instead of
"THE EAR IS TOO SMALL AND THE TAIL IS TOO FLUFFY" like get your style crits out we're looking at anatomy.

i just need that off my chest gomenasai lol

p.s. this frustration stems from me trying to find people to commission for a gift

It makes my skin itch to remember how proud I was of those drawings :’D I had thought they were amazing and whatnot

Seeing new and young artists is really nice! However, seeing all the asspatting has been getting on my nerves.
I also wish experienced artists returned.
The Art Critique Center is something I ditched too long ago at this point because of how shitty it's become.

well most of the experienced artists that didnt have friends, didnt take requests or werent staff didnt get shit for comments because

a - no chance to receive art
b - no chance to ass kiss
c - no mindless blather in comment form because friends with the artist

it probably sounds really uppity but its why i always got pissed off writing fanfic here and stopped
the more popular fanfics were only popular because of insert characters which was basically a bunch of mary sues who were all over powered and wore rainbow dash hair
i take pride in my characterization and i wouldnt be caught dead with the mary sues people around here come up with in my work because if a potential buyer sees my work and sees that shit they'll run away from me 5ever
but really thats for another day

and yeah art crit center is dead, it needs to be burned and started over or just turned to the dogs

Yeah, I agree that it seems that what matters more now is who the thread owner is instead of what the art in it is like.

Critique center is definitely way downhill, I'm not denying that I've been a part of it's problems in the past, but I'm not sure if a remake or anything of that nature will turn out for better or for worse.

Half of the fanfics don't even make sense / aren't tfm related, (Yeah I was a victim of that too and I'm ashamed) and I think any fanfic today that does happen to be good never gets noticed. (I'm partially blaming the newish fanfiction subsection for that.)
