Why are people making such a big deal out of the steam players? |

Meh I dont really mind the new steam players Sure, they can't walljump, or aren't very goood at shamming, but everyone at one point or another was like that You cant expect a new player to get the hang of things right away And I do see why the new steam players would think of the game negativly due to how bad the community is Howeever, I have noticed that most of the english steam players have been put in en2, which is slightly better because the en2 community is less toxic, but can still be bad (especially during peak time in en2 801) A pottential solution would be to have a special steam server, which acts similar to how boom, forto and neko do (in regards to the communnity platform),, but since the steam community is relativly new, it may not financially be the right option (ignore any typos, on phone) |

People are mean to the steam players. They call them noobs because they only spawn balloons when they're shaman. Give them sometime and they will learn. They even called me a noob today and I'm level 62. |

On the day of the steam release I decided to play on en2 (I'm usually on international) so I could see the new players. I was pleasantly surprised to see that they were nice and often asked what they should do if they were the shaman, some of them actually handling the maps well. Of course, this environment was ruined by the occasional normal player who would get angry over the "noob" shamans. It's sad that this game is being ruined for these new players because of our toxic community, I was enjoying their company. |

Sinnwidrig a dit : Let's see, 28 servers. Average of 4-6 full rooms per server (bootcamp, survivor, vanilla and normal rooms). 112 moderators required. Seeing as 24/7 is not possible, and office hours won't work (moderators do this for free), we would need about 224 moderators. Even then, it's impossible to have a moderator in every room, being able to speak every language. I could report a Dutch player and pretend he used foul language, even though he only said "my cat is in my room". Why not teaching people to use the /ignore button instead of mixing themselves in the drama? |

Actually, you guys are beating Sinn over something that's a good point. Of the current EN mods, only three or four are active. |

Forgive me, but since when has calling people noobs or getting angry at a shaman for not building to the cheese/making mistakes suddenly meant that the community is 'toxic'? People do this all the time in online games everywhere and have been doing this in TFM ever since the game was launched. One of the great things about TFM is that you don't have to play competitively or professionally or have the best stats etc. to enjoy it. It's a casual game and you can have just as much fun playing casually than you can playing it competitively if you want to. It has never exclusively been about 'winning' and never got to the point where it is now with that focus. pinkiepiekay a dit : You've hand picked exclusively negative reviews from a pool of 1134 at the moment of this post. That's cherry picking. Of those 1134 reviews, 955 are positive, which is a monumental amount compared to the negatives. While that doesn't make the negative reviews meaningless, it's certainly something that should be weighed in. techtriostep a dit : Would taking the Club Penguin approach really fix things? People get around filters easily and we already ban/mute for any sort of discrimination and severe insults, how much stricter can moderation be without treating everyone like toddlers? vanitasu a dit : Everyone has the ability to silence anyone else they don't like or have a problem with by using the /ignore command. How does that alone not help significantly? Again, what more do you specifically want Atelier801 to do, ban/mute everyone who doesn't get along with everyone else? vanitasu a dit : They're actually nice ideas, the training sessions are certainly something that could be organised. A part of me kinda believes learning the techniques of the game by yourself is part of the fun and I'm not sure how more effective these could be over a regular room if these sessions have a room full of mice are all taking turns being the shaman, but it's definitely worth considering. Phatnom a dit : Absolutely this. It's the most underestimated command in the game, yet very little people seem to want to use it. Even with more staff, we aren't going to be able to protect everyone from being offended or having a bad experience from the game and nor should we be expected to. All we can do is try and uphold the rules and help out as best as we can while every other case can be personally solved with the /ignore command. Haruhitastic a dit : Mod activity is certainly an issue, there's no denying it. We know it and we're working on it as best as we can though (See the Announcements) it's just sadly a long and slow process to go through as well as a bit of a catch-22 since all staff have to be over 18 yet there's very little time that adults can dedicate to moderating a game voluntarily (Those bills have to be paid somehow) That being said, I've been online on an alt for the last two hours and only about ten reports have come through on both EN and E2. Either there's not as much bad stuff going on that people claim or no one seems to want to report it. |

I don't think the issue in terms of the community is so much "noob shaman u suck," but more "go kill yourself [homophobic expletive]" |

Haruhitastic a dit : and I hate how a lot of people ignore those facts and try to make their own experiences the only experience everyone has. The only tip I agree with here is that the tutorial should actually show all of the necessary chat commands instead of just how to change rooms. The mod situation is at it's worst with the low count, but that can be solved with just another wave of hired mods, and I know the problem with that is that there's a lot of bias in the staff and I really don't know how to solve that other than just restarting the staff completely. I know that mods are trying to improve the situation, but the same thing has been said months ago before I took I small hiatus and nothing is changed. Also, there was only about 10 bad reviews the first day the game released, and now there's 186 with 8 in the group of reviews under the helpful tag. A jump like that doesn't mean "Let's just ignore the facts and say a reassuring lie." |

They've actually just done a hiring like Whisky said so in six months we should hopefully see a wave of new staff. But it might be too late. Mouseace a dit : Exactly (I don't know if this remark was in reference to Whisky or myself but I'm taking it in general). The people who are saying the community is great, how often do you play with people you don't know? I played in en-vanilla2, where the only users who I were familiar with joined because I asked them to play with myself and a friend, last night. The room I was in wasn't... toxic per se, but it was dreadfully annoying because there was a fight that had erupted between two users, and it was just embarrassing to show a new user that. Previous night I had played in en-vanilla3 where a group of users were telling another that life was worthless and more or less attempting to convince them to end their life. I didn't bother reporting because no mods and I know that hack reports take precedence. zzzz. |

Haruhitastic a dit : I was referring to Whisky because that person was doing that exact thing to a degree where I just had to say something. I've been in the music rooms for the past week and so far every now and then a huge fight breaks out because of one reason for another (Someone made a remark about gay people or casually criticized anime, I'm serious). These fights get VIOLENT with either death threats or shaming of their orientation/gender and they usually just...end. I mean, let's not deny the fact that this kind of community isn't exclusive to TFM, it's also a big problem in a game like Team Fortress 2 but why people are still having fun in that is because most servers have a big enough staff to at least make sure no one would start spouting the most offensive things ever when the traffic is at it's highest. |

Ah okay, sorry for the misunderstanding. And yeah, I've seen fights like that as well, and it's sad in the end you know fuck all will be done. I've tried to report stuff like that and I'm told "well, they can use ignore." That really doesn't mean the entire bloody room wants to lay witness to it. And the unfortunate thing is, staff reading this thread won't care and nothing will change and we'll be beating a dead horse. Hell, I wasn't exactly a fan of Sydoline but at least she would sooner or later respond to the critiques given. Zou hasn't even done that (mostly re: the UI thread). |

Let's also consider the fact that yes, people can mute the person but it won't change much when people are going to come into the room and see this person and then it'll become a cycle. An incompetent staff can be fixed with more regulations, some sort of training period with a mentor, and for again, the tutorial mentioning that you can report people to start with. |

Mouseace a dit : This is a great idea that touches on this topic. As far as people who constantly toss "trash" and "noob" insults around; fine, it's easy to ignore the person. For new players however, they're unaware of all the functions and for some people, kids or not, they can get upset considering some of the insults I've seen towards shaman mistakes have been really vicious, ranging from "idiot" to full-blown disability slurs. And by the way, THOSE are the kind of things I'd like to see moderated for. I'm supposed to enjoy TFM by knowing somebody won't even be muted for using slurs targeted at disabilities and/or race? Beyond that are things like homophobic insults, ableist ones if you're familiar with that term, and death threats. And whether Transformice is marketed as a "casual game" or not doesn't matter. When there are people who constantly berate you for not aiding them in upping their firsts and other stats, it feels heavily like a competitive game. The ideal is for TFM to be competitive by choice, but enjoyable with others whether you make mistakes or not. Can I ignore people calling me a noob? Sure. But can the new players who expected better do the same? It's a concern for Atelier, considering more players = more money = more profit, you know? I understand moderators have their own lives, but I never asked for an overnight change. Just some considerations to take into mind, and the best of luck to you all. Thank you for your work: I know the moderators can't be present 24/7. (This isn't directed towards anybody, but as a side note, please don't throw the "get off the internet if you can't handle it!" card. That is so ignorant towards people with anxiety disorders or other illnesses. Not to mention: people can have feelings and be affected by non face-to-face interactions. Shocker!) |

Your position was created to moderate chat, not be a vague and aloof authority that chides us with logical fallacies when we remind you that you're not doing the job. And thanks for pointing out that it's a volunteer position for such busy, important adults (we certainly can't understand or relate—I think you were suggesting) so you can hide behind I'm not being monetarily compensated for the effort. Quit posturing and be mods in function, you uppity high school clique. Oh hey, do you know how to get more than one EN mod online at a time? Host a Livestream Dernière modification le 1423071780000 |

Gioguex a dit : So you're assuming all players on steam are mature? Anyways it's pretty much the opposite since Transformice is on steam people of ALL ages will want to try it out due to the "hype", As for the mod topic, I agree most of the mods are inactive and have been for awhile without any notice to why they are inactive and if it will continue or not being posted, and also as Haru mentioned Zou hasn't been doing much even though I can't say Sydo would of have fixed it. In the end I doubt we'll see any changes community wise, as for the mods let's hope the new recruitments they did awhile ago help them. Mouseace a dit : That's a nice idea Ace, but who would mentor them? If we are to all agree that most of the mods atm are inactive and a few of the others aren't doing their job correctly (Referring to mods telling players to just ignore instead of actually doing something) it doesn't leave us with much options..
