(This is the updated suggestion thread asking for the removal of totems from survivor. Jordynl gave me permission to remake it.) TOTEMS As many of you may know, when hard mode was added to the game on 30th january 2011 it came along with totems, they were there to help the shaman by using the different shaman objects to build up an easier way for mice, it can be unlocked once a player has saved 1000 mice in normal mode. TOTEMS IN SURVIVOR It first started as something unusual, players in Survivor would make a totem just for fun, if there were people who already used the massive-killing totems they were a little group, but now, that's changed. The usage of totems in Survivor since the Survivor badges and Survivor currency were released, has increased and it's reached a point where the public chat is filled with insults towards those players, so totems don't only annoy players but also encourage them to break the rules. REASONS TO REMOVE TOTEMS FROM SURVIVOR Here are some of the reasons why totems should be removed from Survivor, including opinions from players who play survivor and some that don't. Survivor is supposed to be fun, but with all the totems, which are, most of the times, unavoidable and there is no way of surviving to them, the name "Survivor" loses all of it's meaning. Someone who wants to use a totem can spawn up to 20 cannons and place them anywhere around the map, giving the players a really limited chance of surviving, this probably will make a lot of players to start losing interest in Survivor or even the game. Some of my friends only come on to hang out with their Survivor friends, but totems make this impossible since there's no way we can play at least for 5 rounds before getting killed by one of those totems. Usually mice are allowed to see where cannons are coming from due to the arrows on them, but it's all different with totems. These are some of the most common totems you'll find in survivor, 2 of each 10 shamans in Survivor use totems which always end up killing the majority of players, making them lag or even crash. Cannons totem Anvil god(?) Massive-killing totem This totem is a bunch of cannons with a yellow nail attached to an ball with a red nail, massive-killing totem. Totems that trap mice giving shamans the opportunity to use portals and killing all of them. And another totem... Anvil god. Massive-killing totem. As much as I'd want the use of totems to be completely unusable in survivor (in the same way revive was removed), I feel like it wouldn't really be survivor without that cheap handful of players. Yeah yeah, it's an obnoxious thing to have, some cannon walls or anvil gods being almost being impossible to avoid, I feel like it adds on to survivor. |

lapinprince a dit : I can understand the feeling of totems being a sentimental part of survivor. In overall gameplay though, it gives the shaman an unfair advantage over the other mice playing. Now that there are survivor coins to collect, it's also a cheap way for shamans to gain those coins. It's a big reason they got rid of the revive options and the divine mode range, unfair advantages. It does not take skill or add to the gameplay when shamans make those types of totems specifically for survivor. In my opinion totems should be limited for vanilla/reg rooms only. (Utility as well). I'm not sure if it's 100% true, but to me, it seems totems were made to help builds in hard mode. Since survivor is a completely different gamemode, I don't think totems are needed for it. To add to what you said, I do understand the feeling that it "wouldn't be survivor without it" right? Over the years of playing survivor I've grown to not like those totems though :< I'd rather see if I have the skill to avoid the shamans cannons. (Although with the totem options I had a lot of fun trolling pretending it was an all cannon totem, when in reality it was just a B plank haha.) /support |

/Half Support I'm not sure if I can really support this, since not all Totems are "Deadly" when used in survivor. Like mine, when I play survivor and sham, I use my totem at the end for the Winner (a Heart Balloon totem) But then again, some people do create really OP totems (I've had one friend who had created a totem that seriously covered a whole map), and Deadly Survivor Totems do get really annoying. |

Momorain a dit : Totems were created with the intentional purpose of helping a hard mode shaman out, and I do agree with you that the people who are abusing this in survivor rooms for easy kills. But, I don't know. I've been kind of half and half with the removal of totems. There's obviously a lot more cons than pros to keep totems in Survivor. I mean, suggestions like this wouldn't even be happening if people didn't want easy kills (or could have just grinded for coins with their friends). Maybe instead of removing the option to use totems, I believe there should just be a cannon limit. (I understand anvil gods and trap totems would still exist, but you gotta survive them, right?) (I too have some cheap fun with totems, a cannon totem where everything is transparent. You'd be surprised that I've gotten kills out of shocked players. :~) ) |

They removed totems from survivor a while ago and it was causing too much glitching, so the survivor mapcrew had to remove the feature shortly after releasing it. I don't know if the survivor mapcrew only found a loophole for removing totems, or the admins actually got rid of it at the time, but I don't know if it would be worth the lagging and glitching to get rid of totems. Seb explained why it was taken away My thoughts about removing survivor totems goes with Diamondwing about limiting cannons within the totem editor. Some people don't abuse the totem and removing them completely wouldn't be fair to all. /halfsupport |

I have yet to see a shaman kill all mice with just 1 cannon totem. It practically never happens. And even if it would happen, removing or limiting totems because of this seems way out of proportion. In order to tackle the anvil gods, it seems a better idea to limit the anchors rather than the items. |

This has advantages and disadvantages. I think we should have totems in survivor, but cannons be excluded or only have a certain amount. For example, if you're shamming and you have (too many) cannons in your totem, it will not be available to use. If it doesn't, you should be allowed to use it. Let's say they only allowed 3-5 cannons. You can add as many cannons as you want, but if it goes over the limit, you can not use it in survivor. |

I fully support this idea, just like in the old thread. I really see no reasons to keep totems in survivor, since they dont add anything interesting to the gamemode. Either they are fun totems (the balloon heart) which nobody would miss at all, since its just playing around, or they are mass-killing totems wipping almost the whole room with ZERO! effort. You dont need any experience at survivor for it. A play who was in vanilla all his life can just come to survivor with a cannon totem without having an idea what to do at all, but yet killing alot of mice with just ONE CLICK! Exactly that makes it unbalanced like nothing else in this game. Natrats a dit : Like I said above, the non abusive totems doesnt add anything to the gameplay. Maybe some are like "Woah this is beautiful", but thats all. For the sake of survivor I can live without such. Anythin a dit : Because there are some lucky guys surviving it (anvil gods still can kill everyone most of the time), but survivor should not depend on luck. Beside that its enough that 80% of the room dies by one click, after that the sham has easy 1:20 min to kill the rest of the room. While other totems doesnt add anything to survivor, how is removing them out of proportion? Greengummies a dit : What disadvantages come along with removing totems? That people cant show their balloon heart anymore? I really dont see how that is a disadvantage, it just doesnt add anything to the gameplay. Also its not only about coins or Killed mice on the profile, people think they are actually good if they kill as many mice as possible, for the noobs the cannon totem is the best way to do so (even for experienced players it would be logical to use cannon totems, but they actually want to show they are good). Survivor coins and the survivor stats only made it worse. Lapinprince a dit : How do you want to survive an anvil god? So far the anvil god is way more effective than a 20-cannon-wall. Also with 3-5 cannons it would be hard to survive, remember 5 cannons at once! Your chances to survive this are going down alot. Lapinprince a dit : That could also be done with just transparent cannons, this trolling is actually the only pro to keep totems so far, but it doesnt even closely come to the advantage of removing totems completly. Lapinprince a dit : There are still enough other cheap ways to kill (meep, faking, blocking, using boxes, portals and so on..). On old days it maybe add something to survivor, but nowadays when sometimes every 2nd sham uses a god or a cannon totem its annoying. I also cant remember I had such big problems with totems earlier, but since the sham gets coins and killed mice in survivor stats they have a good reason to use a fast and easy way to kill alot of players. |

angelvintage a dit : That will be pretty impossible to make. The easiest way would be to disable Hardmode, just like it happened to divine. Also I dont see a big difference between gods and cannonwall totems, both do one thing: massive killing mice without leaving them a good chance to survive. |

/support I think the troll totems are funny. Once I made a ball-only totem and trolled everyone. And then ended up wreaking havoc. I personally think that they should remove cannons from the totem selection. |
