Also note that regarding the critical strike damage change, it makes critical damage no longer worth investing. Crits are still fine and great because of their base 3x multiplier, but investing into crit damage is completely pointless because you could get a better effect from just physical damage passives, or much better effect from electrical/fire damage passives.

Numerically it may seem like crit damage has a small (and actually rather insignificant) benefit over physical damage bonus IF ONE HAS OVER 50% critical strike chance (also keep in mind the critical strike chance is capped at around 75%), but because of the fact that critical hits will generally deal lots of wasted damage due to dealing more damage than necessary to finish off the target, the ACTUAL EFFECTIVE damage increase is now LESS than a physical damage bonus, even at maximum crit chance, and MUCH LESS compared to elemental damage buff passives (although admittedly elemental damage has a very limited weapon set available).

The only time critical damage will take the lead in killing things quicker would be against targets with exceptionally high amounts of health points, such as peruvians, supercharged enemies, world bosses, and possibly orange/SP infected (but to a lesser effect).


A better change would have been to reduce crit multplier to 200%, or reduce the effectiveness of all the existing crit damage mods in the game by something like 30% (while keeping them multiplicative). As-is, the fact that it's additive requires the values to now be _increased_ for them to be balanced with other damage bonuses due to the fact that crits are both unreliable, and tend to have poor efficiency due to overkill damage. The small numerical advantage it may have IN THEORY is lost when applied in real testing due to extra damage being wasted on crits.


Also, while on the topic of critical hits, is there any word from developers about critical multiplier not affecting combo bonus damage, kit bonus damage, weapon kit bonus damage, nor DoT? As it is now none of those damage sources can get multiplied on critical hit, making critical hits even less effective than damage buffs again in another way since any damage obtained from combo or weapon kit (not counting non-direct-damage benefits like attack speed, or enemy debuffs) are much less effective with crit. The one weapon that is seemingly designed for crit (spear) is terrible because it's DPS is too low.

It's also interesting that they at all put any focus on crit right now when there's maybe like 4-10% of players running decent-quality crit builds (I'm talking people using more than just tracker or reaper and calling that a build), vs like 50%+ of players who are abusing toxic+fire damage which is clearly far more powerful— especially for leveling up since it guarantees getting experience from all the enemies even if you never hit more than a single one with an attack.
