Temporary. To be reallocated when completed. Here I will make a guide how to modify (edit) content in forum sections, topics and posts. Forum-school, if you will. The guide is primary targeting forum modeRATors with modifying permissions. Though I would say, insights in forum´s functionalities are usefull for non-moderators too. If you are a tribe member with no permissions to modify forum content, then your interface will look a bit different and will have less options than seen in example-pictures. Basic. The forum structure consists of two types of objects, Section and Topic (thread). A Section can be described like a Folder on a computer. A Topic can be described like a File on a computer. Just like you can put a file or a folder into an other folder on a computer, so you can put a Topic or a Sub-Section into a Section. You can not put a topic inside a topic, just as you can not put a file into a file. (Except on UNIX- operating system. It has a philosophy "Everything is a file" ^^ ) Lets take a look at the Section Properties: (To Edit an existing Section, as moderator, click the light-grey gear-wheel next to Section Icon in forum overview.) 1. First we have the Name of our Section, in this example "TFM Tech School". 2. Icon of our Section, in this example a cute rat busy-busy constructing/repairing some thing important. 3. Description of our Section, that can be seen only if you hover your mouse pointer over the Section´s Name in the forum overview. 4. Minimum amount of characters. (atm not sure, in topics names? Subject to editing) 5. The State. Both Sections and Topics can be in one of three states. 5.1. Active- Visible. New Topics and posts can be made by non-moderators. 5.2. Closed- Visible. New Topics and posts can NOT be made by non-moderators. 5.3. Deleted- NOT Visible. I would say that maybe more correct word for this State would rather be "Hidden"? Because the Section (or Topic) is not really deleted. A moderator can access, populate and even "un-delete" (switch to Active or Closed) a deleted Section or Topic by checking the boxes "Deleted Sections" and/or "Deleted Topics" in the Filter Display function located at top, right of the user interface. Non-moderators can not access deleted sections or topics. Correction! I now discovered that Deleted sections can not be un-deleted, only accessed. Well... shit! (5.3 is now subject to editing. Later on) 6. Parent could be described as Home or Location. Simply, where the object is located in the structure. 6.1. A moderator can reallocate a Section or a Topic from one section to an other. A Post can not be reallocated or deleted, only edited or moderated. It is most of times preferred to reallocate Sections or Topics, rather than deleting old once and creating new once. 7. Submit "Enter", Execute, Do it, Make it happen! 2.1. Section´s Icon can be seen in more than one place, as seen in the example below: (In this example, the Section´s Icon is a cute mechanical mouse) 3.1. How it looks if you hover the mouse pointer over a Section´s Name in the forum overview: (The mouse pointer of the operating system is not included in the picture when executing screen print function) Topic Properties: (To Edit an existing topic, click the light-grey gear-wheel next to topic´s Title located above the first Post of the topic.) 1. Title of a Topic is just like the Name of a Section. (In this example "Basics") 2. Postit permanently nailing the Topic above "not-postited" topics, but below the last "postited" topic, in the parent section. I would suggest that most of times, when creating new topic, leave the Postit box unchecked at first. You can edit this function back and forth any time later. This is also a useful function if you need to organize a collection of topics inside a section to a specific arrangement. 3. State same as Section´s State. 3.1. Active 3.2. Closed 3.3. Deleted 4. Section just like the Parent of a Section. The Location of the Topic. 5. Submit "Enter", Execute, Do it, Make it happen! Topic Structure: A Topic consists of: - Title-header - List of posts Now, lets edit some text inside a post. Note. To prevent commands in brackets from being executed, I will put a dot in the beginning (just like in chat, example ./report cheater) Example [.color=#E68D43] Text To Be Colored [./color] To edit an existing post, left-click the user-image of the post (located on the left side) In the dropdown-menu, click the Edit option. The codes consists of two commands. Start and End. Content to be modified in between start-command and end-command. Example: [.color=#E68D43] From this command and onward, color text in #E68D43 color. Text To Be Colored [./color] The end of text coloring. The starting command is Color. The attribute is =#E68D43. The ending command is same as starting, except it precedes with a slash ( / ). There are two different ways to insert text coloring commands. The first one (I think is very seldom used) is: Click the left text coloring button in the edit-tool-bar Doing so, the tool will print the base of the coloring code. [.color=#][./color] You have to add the color code in hexadecimal after color=# (no space between) [.color=#E68D43] Link to Hex-Code-Color tool Web-tool for extraction of hex-code from local image. (Online Image Editing Tool) Next step is to put text to be colored between the two text coloring commands. [.color=#E68D43] Text To Be Colored [./color] Note. TFM forum dark bg-color: 0e242d More to come. MUUUCH more. Time... wai u run away from meh?!... =C Also. I have been thinking. The type of language in my descriptions and the way I express words is very technical. I can imagine that there would be at lest a considerable amount of players not understanding considerable amount of the text. So. Should I/we adapt the language so that more people than that would understand? That second alternative comes at a price though. Amount of text and work put in, to describe same things, would be much more. And an other angle, people that are to lazy to find explanation of words they do not understand, are most probably to lazy to learn things described in technical text? Making the adaption just a waste of precious time and energy, and there fore irrational decision? What do you guys think on the matter? If you reply to this thought, please do so in TFM-Tech-School-Discussion-Thread. Dernière modification le 1473236640000 |
