It's based on the old proclamation 'The king is dead, long live the king!' (French: 'Le roi est mort, vive le roi!') made when the monarch dies and the new one is crowned. What it really means is 'The [old] king is dead, long live the [new] king!'

It doesn't make sense in this context though. Oh well.

@Patolary: As has already been mentioned, (and can be backed up with the wording of the article) They mean something more along the lines of "[old game] is dead, long live [new game]". And the new game they referred to is most likely Deadmaze.

i have a feeling the target audience for this new game is older than the one of transformice's.

they want you to pay straight up, so that eliminates most kiddies, they have a darker theme, usually attributed to more mature games.

you may find your mouse friends don't wanna play this. It'll get it's own playerbase

I think that's been their goal all along; a new player base. They've mentioned the reason they don't have Fraises in other game yet is because they want them to attract their own players first. They know tfm can't live forever, so I think they are trying to grab new players, and maybe even older / retired tfm players. Besides, I remember reading somewhere they don't consider tfm a game aimed at kids, so I don't think making games strictly for younger players has been their goal or anything.

Isn't it a bit ignorant to say that when the new game hasn't even come out yet?
The company has already stated that they don't want their games to be F2Ps that solely rely on the player base to run. (Nekodancer, Bouboum, Fortoresse). Dead Maze is a pay to play and it looks really solid. You don't even need to play with others to actually play the game correctly.
Celousco would've been the same thing: killing things other than yourself. The only difference would be that on Celousco, there would be more rage between players and more dependency on players for a thriving game.

tl;dr would Celousco really be better?
(actually you'd need to read what i said to actually understand the question)
