Summer is just around the corner, and a lot has happened in a short amount of time for Atelier 801.
As I said in the previous Paroles de Dev, last year we started revamping our whole production pipeline, re-learning everything in HTML5 in order to face the end of Flash on web browsers. This was a critical move to ensure our next games are using up-to-date technology, so they can support us in the long term.

We worked very hard on the Transformice Adventures Demo, to showcase everything we could do with that new technology, then launched the Kickstarter campaign hoping we would reach the goal rapidly and finish the game, ensuring a good continuation for the studio.



Unfortunately, the campaign did not gather enough interest outside the hardcore Transformice circle, and we had to cancel it mid-way.

As you probably saw from the departure posts, we had to let go a lot of people from the studio following that. Transformice and our other games have not been generating enough income for a team of 10 people for a while, and we have some debts to reimburse.

We need to start earning money again, and take some time to work on what we call our technical debt. We have accumulated a lot of code and data over the course of 9 years, built upon a fragile base, and we are reaching a critical point where systems collapse for no reason or are impossible to maintain with a small team. We need to lay everything down, cut systems that don’t work, recode basic services on a more robust code base.

That means a lot will be changing behind the scenes, but some changes will have significant public impact too. A lot of our infrastructure is concentrated in our forums, and this is where most of the rework will be happening, so I want to take this moment to advise you to save the forum threads, private messages and Micepix images that you estimate important. We will do our best to save and migrate everything, but there’s a high chance that we might have to delete some content to alleviate the load on our systems.

We will keep updating Transformice, as we have been for the last 9 years. We are working to put back the Gardening Event shortly, maybe with some new gameplay, and will keep releasing new items every two weeks. We will rework the website in order to advertise for the Standalone version (exe), because the web browsers will deactivate Flash soon.
The multiplayer space fight game that helped us transition our pipeline, Antarès, will be releasing sometime during the summer.
We will soon close Transformice Adventures’ Demo and put it on hiatus until we have everything cleaned up to resume proper development. The Demo had a great critical acclaim and a solid code base to work with, we’re confident we will be able to finish it eventually, even with a more limited team.

I've known for a long time that there would come a time when everything would fall apart.
To be honest, some of the changes are to the disadvantage of the players, and most of them are not really needed.
In my opinion Administrators should remove games that nobody plays anyway, and not add new ones, just take care of "Transformice" and try to make it better and more appropriate.
Starting with HTML5, it will have to be fixed somehow, Transformice has a lot of bugs and in which some functions don't work, u have to focus only on Transformice and try to come up with something new but with time just to not go bankrupt.
I noticed that most people prefer Transformice than other games so I think that before anything is created it should be considered whether it will be profitable.
I don't criticize anyone but I think u can do a lot but it all depends on how determined u are to do it.
I am very supportive of the whole crew and I hope you will take this srlsy and focus on what is most important, love ya xx
