| The problems aren't just on me. They occur both ways. First off why even publicly state that you are gay on a MOUSE GAME? Honestly, that's a magnet for trolls and haters. |

| anything you do online is a trigger for trolls and haters. As soon as you express an opinion a troll will latch on jsut to troll you. If i ran around saying "i love toast" i would get toast haters telling me they put toast in the bin etc. this is turning de-railing into a freedom of speech debate now. and if that's the case my view is that someone who is openly gay, and has the gumption to admit it in this hate filled prejudice rife world world, they shouldn't be banned or muted for saying such things. Yes, unfortunately, if they're realistic they should expect trolls and haters. But they should not expect the management of the game to come down on them and to reply to the above poster, i'd add why would you admit -anything- to do with your real life in a mouse game about getting cheese? by that logic we should all be IC as our mice and only type things directly related to shamming, builds, shop accessories, getting cheese etc. This is not the case. People talk about school, food, activities, and other things non related to the game itself. Sexual orientation is just another topic in this case. If you want to preach that speaking about orientation has no place in a mouse game then you should by that logic only ever chat about things that are related to cheese-chasing Dernière modification le 1426264440000 |

hpocks a dit : How would you propose to cope with the times people say something like "fuc.king" or "fuk" or something like that? How would the system deal with it if "fuk" was filtered but people wanted to talk about the Fukushima disaster in the chat? There's so many ways around any kind of automatic system that people will know about, and easily get around, but modern automated methods can't take things into context either. It's just that it's also not practical to have staff members in absolutely every room all the time. The situation isn't ideal but there's no perfect way to go around getting it solved either. Even if some staff have "abused" their powers over the past few months like has been claimed in this thread, at least it's being discussed properly now (and there's a very in-depth discussion going on between the staff) and you can be assured that any staff who are improperly sanctioning people will be given a stern warning not to again without appropriate reasoning. Also at the people saying things like "people can use the N word or fag or whatnot get away with it", that's completely not true. If there's a member of the ingame moderation team there, it will be dealt with, it's just not always possible considering the size of the game's community. Dernière modification le 1426264380000 |

Xxfangx a dit : So you think that LGBT people should remain in silence because it is a bad thing to be gay? LEL you reminded me that policy "DON'T ASK, DON'T TELL" You are ridiculous. |

Xxfangx a dit : The fact that it's a mouse game shouldn't mean jack shit. If people are currently having a hard time coping with their sexuality and this game is their sanctuary for guidance, then they shouldn't be dismissed from talking about sexual orientation. And the fact that you brought the thing about haters and trolls up just shows that this is a growing problem because people are being oppressed as a result of others taking a dim view of gay people. |

| he's not saying you shouldn't discuss your orientation on a mousegame, he's saying you shouldn't discuss anything non related to mouse gaming on the mouse game (if i read his logic right, he might just be trolling us as he's not a LGBT+ ally and he's chimed in on a conversation about specificly that) |

Squirrelmows a dit : I don't think anyone discusses his/her sexual orientation in a mousegame. The problem is that one person is punished in an online game just for saying he is gay, and what's more he is labelled as homophobic by the mod who indeed is the real homophobic. Also, many times i had to tell my orientation just because of male players' interest in me... So, what should i do in such cases? Should i conceal my orientation??? |

| people do discuss it. As stated before if they are in a bad place in real life, or have no support, or have a homophobic family or peers, their online friends in this game may be their only vice so they discuss it with them |

| Guys i won't say that that specific arb is homophobic, this is straight too much and completely unnecessary. But that he made a big mistake. Imho the main problem is that the new bunch of arbitres are behaving quite badly. And i wont blame them as much as the one who choose them, really. |

| why do we have "hidden mods" in the first place? (genuine question wanting a valid answer, not just a "why did this even happen?!" type question) Surely people with power shouldn't have anonymity so abuse of power can be traced back to them? or am I misunderstanding the term hidden mods? Untill this whole thing i didn't know they existed |

| I think the problem herein lies not with the word that's being used ("gay"), but how often it's been used. In rooms 3-5 in particular, conversation involving the word gay and homosexuality in some way is constant. The conversation even becomes overtly sexual at times. In fact, it gets to a point where it almost becomes satirical from an outside perspective, which is why some staff members may interpret the way it's being used in a negative light. In some cases, it even looks like a mockery of gayness is being made. There's absolutely nothing wrong with being proud of your sexuality, nor should pride be censored, but when it's literally all that's being talked about, it can construed in an entirely different way to someone who isn't used to that kind of conversation. I still believe the very existence of a tribe with the name SGKGBT disproves the idea the word gay isn't allowed at all, so I don't know where you're getting that notion. Please stop making a mountain of a molehill and claiming your experience is universal for everyone. |

Squirrelmows a dit : They aren't hidden mods, technically. They are arbs, a step below moderators and hidden because they are generally untrained and not yet taught how to deal with actually moderating the game. They have limited powers, can only ban/mute for X amount of hours and all, or that was how it used to be, which makes them fairly harmless, but potentially a nuisance. Of course things happen, mistakes are made. New arbs I assume are generally excited about their powers, and try to handle as many situations within their rights [small infractions] as possible because they either want to show they would be a good mod or help the short handed mod team so they can tend to the hackers and yadiblah. It will lead to bad judgment calls, and you can bet there will be some arbs who probably have a grudge against someone and probably will look for any excuse to mute that person if the opportunity presents itself. This is being painted as something major, in my opinion it really isn't, but there are a small, select group of people who seem to jump on any excuse to raise a pitch fork. Homophobia? I really don't think so. I do find it extremely hilarious because gay is probably one of the very, very few unoffensive non-rule breaking things some of these mice say. What needs to happen is that the mods and admins and maybe the arbs need to have a discussion and work it out. Some arbs need a slap on the wrist and maybe some need to be removed, but they can't all be perfect. |

| How could they be homophobic if they ban both homophobics and gays? I can name many instances for which i was muted for sharing my opinion and i was muted, but i don't go crying in the forums about it. |
