It's not the mods who are the bad ones, it's the players. Most players get so triggered when they get banned and they don't even try to just wait for the ban to be over. Instead, they complain to Atelier by making a ban appeal thread. Which always get locked.
And if you think a mod banned you for an unfair reason, go look at the rules or Transformice and think "did I do one of these recently?"

Dog_food a dit :
all this mod adulation lol

theres but a handful of mods that are actually helpful, some mods do not give a crap and wont enforce any rule, others really get anal for any little offense

we havent had EN mods for freaking months but for some reason the DUTCH community needs 10 mods connected at the same time, when theres only like 20 dutch players in the whole game lol

this games dying tho, 4k players max on a sunday afternoon

EN is full of brs with their fps hax running among normal rooms and bootcamps and no one does anything, thats how u can tell this game is dead and buried and no one gives a crap anymore, its pointless to complain about mods when the games on its last legs

I like how you directly connect "hacking" to "brs", lmao.

a dit :

what...ive seen way more mods doing their duty properly, cant expect all of them to be flawless...they are otherwise busy as many give a upper hand to turn off whispers to ease their job or need a break over time. other than that, for most part they are looking into reports which are MANY.

a dit :

thats quite bullshit considering ive seen more than enough that EN has more mods obviously than german. the many mods on DE could be explained thet many can speak deutsch (considering its quite of a universal language nowadays)

a dit :
this games dying tho, 4k players max on a sunday afternoon

any valid proof to back up this argument? since there is no players online count anymore for a good while, its quite blatant to make a statement that the game feels dead to you from your experience while you probably dont know the actual numbers since i highly doubt it its so easily to track them without the 'players online counter', that used to before exist.
a dit :
EN is full of brs with their fps hax running among normal rooms and bootcamps and no one does anything

false everywhere...yes brs are on every corner, especially on EN server (what did you expected from the most popular server) but theyre not hacking there that much...i barely see any stupid hacking in EN server, as its mostly a rarity to spot some, while you should expect them way more common on their BR server. not to mention ive gotten plenty karma out of it, where i cant complain the rate on how often they can get them and ban. this sentence just shows salt that they can't be anywhere where you want them to be

a dit :
u can tell this game is dead and buried and no one gives a crap anymore

partly true, but this just doesnt make sense by any means when there is active forums and two discord chats plus the game still gets updates quite frequent. sure they may be having struggles due to flash plugin and their staff changes, but im highly doubting its not like no one cares really

Iwillforget a dit :

Agree, since bunch of players are not hostile and sometimes decides to go for a blackmailing. Though then again this in not all of cases where I have seen also occasions of some doing unrighteous actions which later gets them freed from their moderation duties

Whenever someone claims mod abuse or power trips the problem is either that they got sanctioned and refuse to see themselves as rule breakers, or they agree that they were naughty but disagree with the length of the given punishment. This thread is no exception to that.

As far as sanctions and sanction lengths go, keep in mind that Transformice moderation is quite tightly regulated, logged and monitored. These sanction lengths you see are predetermined for the type of infraction. This improves accountability at the cost of flexibility when it comes to cultural differences. What in France (keep in mind this game is based in France and that those in charge are based in France) may be a perfectly normal punishment may seem as overly strict to someone from another country.

These differences in communities also reflect the moderators you get for your community. Since this example was already mentioned, NL has always been well represented. It appears that the Dutch Transformice player base is relatively old, while speaking English decently (which is a non negotiable requirement for moderating any community). A fair amount of them also actively apply and make their applications worthwhile. Not every language group has the luxury of getting so many able volunteers to sign up. Beggars can't be choosers so it's perfectly possible that communities that don't have a big pool to fish in may try out less suitable applicants.

Then there's accessibility. Even with ample mods available in a community, whispers are a terrible channel for moderation purposes. They're difficult to sort, anyone from any community can whisper you by design and you can only ignore individuals rather than language groups. That means that even with "10 dutch mods connected at the same time" they all still get whisper spam from large communities, in languages they do not speak. That has a very real impact on their ability to moderate effectively. As a result, it's tempting to turn off whispers altogether, which snowballs into more whisper spam for the remaining moderators, causing them to silence too. This is also why the reporting feature is extremely valuable; anyone can respond to a ticket when they're able.

Besides that, moderators have different roles across communities. Where in smaller communities it may be feasible to actively be a part of the community in the sense that you have longer talks with regular players, once a community gets busy enough you're just digging through reports. If you do take time out to have a chat with someone, it's easy to get accused of favoritism (the recruitment process, which may involve watching people in game, also contributes to this) and to some extent power abuse. So another question that needs to be asked is what to expect from moderators. Should they just enforce established rules or do they also need to be a central spokesperson for everything going on with the game?

Overall TFM moderation functions well enough although I've always felt that it can be a bit strict at times. Besides that appealing given sanctions can be difficult due to language barriers, differences in time zones and the fact that not all in game moderators respond to their forum inbox (yet another channel to be spammed, after all). There is always room for improvement.

I agree; some people don't give moderators some slack and immediately go against mods for something the PLAYER themselves did. It's not fair for the moderators to deal with such hostility coming from people who have done something wrong--a mod has to do their job

Mods are human players who volunteer to keep the game and forums PG-13 and free from hacks. If you ever get the chance to talk to mods, they're friendly too.

The mods are crap but they are loveable crap. Don't hurt me mods. They try their best and we should support them instead stepping on them like water down cigarette buds on a warm afternoon. We should not be mean to them but honor them like our ancestors.

Being mod seems stressful to me, in addition to their own problems, they need to resolve a ton of problems and responsibilities that also involve the game. By the way, they have their own lives, their jobs, their colleges and studies.

Agreed. If you whisper a EN mod, there's a high chance they'll be super nice to you or friendly. I've had multiple encounters where I've had to talk to them about someone who's going against the rules, and they've never been more helpful towards me. I can't speak for them as to what they would say, but I can speak for how considerate most are.

To players that have gotten banned/muted, I get that you might be a little steamed that you got banned/muted and I understand your frustration, but it's just the rules. Obviously, you can appeal that ban, but, it's not really whether or not the mod has something "personal" against you, or has a "vendetta" towards you. They were hired to enforce the rules and make the community better in-game or at least put a stop to things that might create havoc in the game, such as hacking, using inappropriate behavior, or anything else that falls in those categories.

I'd also like to add that while I've talked to few mods in the EN community, they've been nothing but helpful. Some of them even have a really comical humor. I haven't talked to ALL of the mods, but as for the nice ones, I'm speaking up for them. You guys have to give them more credit, and not so much negativity. Some mods work really hard on reading your reports, and being attentive to you via whisper. Give them that appreciation, because, in all fairness, they DON'T have to answer you. You just need to treat them how you want to be treated. Even on the Discord, you see most of them being friendly.

I don't know. At the end of the day, everyone has their own opinions!

Deltarubee a dit :
time to respond to another salt post

a dit :
In my opinion, they are useless (or somewhat close to being useless)

first sentence right off the bat is plain illogical and indicates salt to expect on this thread. without them, the game would be more chaotical as the hacks would be left and right same as the ones who insult, phishers, spammers and flooders, and some more on top of my head. only because you didnt got karma shows that either they are busy looking over other people breaking the rules, or are taking a break. putting on a blame for them cause they cant be on every corner is just plain sad.

within by that cleared, time to debunk your points thoroughly you mention

a dit :
1. I get muted for speaking french in the English server

if you were in English only server, then it makes sense you got banned as it follows to the rules of speaking in English only there, as some mods follow this guideline strictly

a dit :
mod usually tells me to just "ignore them" or "disable your whispers''

threatning and flame wars is a too common thing already on this game. youll be lucky if youll get that person banned for insults, because theres so many cases of them, plus on top of it they have better things to do rather than look over a flame war which are on every corner.

a dit :
I was once threatened in my whispers and they were spamming me so I told a mod about it. Guess what he/she responded. "Sorry, I can't do anything about whispers. Just ignore them" (or something along those lines). I understand why they can't do anything about the whispers because for all they know, I could be lying but I sent a screenshot of the conversation between me and the bully and the mod never replied. That's the 2nd problem with mods.

how is this a problem exactly? they are denying all evidence through whispers since its a childs play to fake it and abuse it. same goes for screenshots, wont help, still can be faked and it is not enough valid of a proof. on top of it there still hasnt been made a possibility to fight aganist this so the best you can do regards this is just to listen to mods and ignore them.

a dit :
Whenever I whisper them to alert them of someone either hacking or insulting, a) they never reply to my whispers and do nothing about it

what if told you that a good part of mods dont have time to respond. it is not their duty to respond like 'im looking into it' since every minute matters for them as good part of hackers are evasive not to mention they have loads of reports incoming in which they might miss some out because the flame war already ended or a hacker logged off.

a dit :
How are we suppose to contact them if they have disabled whispers?

theres a way on how you can let them know, which is REPORT.

a dit :
I wish they did something to fix this issue (yes I know people are now applying to be mods so I guess that's a good step forward)

mods are always fighting with this issue by donating their free time and giving dedication to this game to always keep an eye to a good part of rule breakers. they are doing their job as well as they can to be always on a lookout. saying that mods dont do nearly nothing is plain sad as youre underestimating their important role in game.

ok but she just hit all the main points in your topic oof
