Guys why the hell would you want to delete the whole account

Lots of people have left for about a year and came back. I bet if they tried to come back and it said "Invalid" in the password slot, they'd be pretty pissed off. :L

I left Cardnel untouched for a year, and i would be hella pissed if I came back and found it was gone.

I left my account untouched for more than a year, almost two. You can just let the person who wants to change name to force the other player to change name if they were untouched for a year, like change their username from "User" to "User_" like tribes. And have that player notified if they ever want to come back.

Rather than deleting/wiping an inactive account, it'd be a lot better idea to just give the account a temporary username (i.e. "Player_123456789") and prompt the user to pick a new username the next time they log on.

Also, a year is too short. 2-3 years would be more ideal.

Alsooo, to my knowledge, there's no way to change usernames which makes purging inactive accounts pretty useless. The only way to acquire a purged username would be to make another account but most established players won't change their account because all their stats/money/items are on their main account. It's highly likely that active players will just make alts straight after the purge (which they'll then never use).

If I quit for a year and then come back, having being bored and then liking the game concept again, then realising my account is deleted and someone else has taken my account with all my hard earnt stats reset, I would be very pissed off! All the work I earnt would be deleted and in this case, for nothing and gone to waste. 1 year is FAR TOO SHORT. Perhaps what if I remembered my user but I didn't play TFM for a year (or more) due to being busy, and finally having the time and getting excited to play- then realising my account is not available for me myself anymore? Wouldn't be fair.

If someone is wanting there username to stay and keep on as 'locked' then they will either have to reach 1000 cheese or maby have to pay 500 cheese.(or something like that)

The 1k thing for (earn the 1k cheese ONCE) is fair but the 500 cheese thing isn't fair. If you have to quit in a hurry for a small while (a year is a small while) and you don't have 500 cheese to lock your account in the shop and haven't earnt 1k cheese yet what will you do? You still PLAYED the game and earnt a bit of cheese. It's not that fair.

Maybe gather 100+ cheese within a month or two? I mean that proves that the account is active.

Gathering 100 cheese EACH month (or each two months) when you are grounded for a long time or very busy is NOT an easy thing to do! It's not that FUN, is it?

Anyway, yeah, I'm not going to support this idea. It's too unfair in my eyes. At least make it longer than 1 year, 1 year is TOO short. In my eyes, that is.

I'm seeing some of the comments and I don't want them to force change the username. I use this username on a lot of sites and if I use a different username for TFM (I don't have good memory) then I'd easily forget it. I don't want the whole deleting account thing to actually exist in the first place. And sorry if I give an idea by accident, but if the account has to force change the username people would make false accounts with numbers next to the actual usernames therefore blocking the first person to just add random numbers to the username. Those accounts may get deleted by a year but you can't activate the username change more than once can you? And if you can, then you might not remember that those accounts are deleted and have no idea what to change your username to.
There are more than one outcomes with this whole idea.

I had pretty good stats when I left in 2011 and joined back in 2014. If I tried logging on and my account was deleted imagine my face. There's a reason no games do something like this, just cause you want a name that's taken doesnt mean they should delete the account.

EDIT: and tell bootcampers or module players to gather 100 cheese a month just to keep playing, I feel like most of them would quit on the spot.

People who play this could be called in by the army or such..delete them? Nah..won't happen even if over the half of the users registers are alrts/spam bots.

I was gone for 2-3 years (other than checking in a few times) and I'd be pissed if I had basically lost my account so no support.

Lots of ppl take a 1-2-3 year breaks or even more, so coming back from that and finding your account has been deleted is a shame

Why would someone delete their progress? If they don't want to play, they don't play. If they want to forget their account completely sometimes they just add their account info to one of those public account sites.

I like the idea of sending reminders through e-mail, but maybe a longer deadline for inactive accounts

Like a few people have stated, I think one year is a tad too short for TFM users. A warning after a year of inactivity is fine, but maybe push for at least two. It would help get rid of alts that other people don't use and have no interest in using again. If you care that much about an alt, log into it and use it. That's what I do with mine.

I honestly think one year is too short. What if someone went on a break for a year? Their account would be deleted by the time they came back. Maybe inactivity for 2 or 3 years then their account would be deleted.

I see where you are coming from with that idea, but imagine if I left ,someone took my name and decided to impersonate me?
Or leave me, but I know a lot of artists nowadays that haven't been active here for more than a year, imagine if someone was to take their names?

Besides my alts are important for me too. Thats the whole reason that when the numbers were added as a possibility I was quick to make my deviant name as an alt, just in case.
